New member, new owner (soon) in Anaheim, CA

Hello all!

I actually had not planned on buying a Lucid car, and frankly had not done much research about them. Back in February of this year I ordered a Tesla Model X Plaid for delivery later this year. That date came and was June 30th! Huzzah! Only problem is that I work in aerospace and was traveling to the Cape Canaveral Space Force station on that day. No big deal, I was returning home on July 1st, I can just have them hold the car for 16 hours until I'm back, right?

Nope.

June 30th was the end of the quarter and Tesla wanted that X off their books. When they heard I couldn't pick it up until July 1st they pulled the VIN, for which they already had me get insurance for, and gave the car to someone else. I got dumped back in to the waiting list and have no VIN and no delivery date anymore. That. Pissed. Me. Off.

I had a pre-autopilot Model S (sorta, we bought it before AP was ever announced, but our car ended up with AP1 and was one of the first ones off the line with that hardware.) We own a Model 3 Performance and a Model Y performance. I clearly am willing to buy cars from them. This seemed like a crazy stupid thing to do. Sure, they got the X off their books in time for the end of the quarter, but they also pissed off a loyal customer.

In that moment I decided that I wanted to look at other options. While still at the Cape I began researching other shipping cars. Lucid came up and with the exception of the software had some pretty epic reviews. Reserved a Lucid Air Grand Touring Thursday night as Tesla was giving away my car. Flew home Friday and visited a Lucid showroom. Saw the car, saw the options, test drove a unit. Had an absolute blast. LOVED the offering! Finalized my config on the spot, the same day I was supposed to be taking delivery of my X. And so now here I am, an excited new Lucid-about-to-be-owner eager to get her new car!

The last time I was this excited for a new car was 8 years ago when I was picking up my original Model S. Super excited to play and see where the hardware and software can take me!
Welcome to this forum. I'm close by in Newport Beach. Ordered my Zenith Red, Tahoe, 19" AGT in March. Still waiting and still excited! This forum continues to provide invaluable information and insights to the car for owners and for the company itself.

🤣 ha! Small world! My (possible) loss is his gain I guess? Not sure it is a loss, wouldn’t have moved to a Lucid had they not done that.
He drove my DE for several weeks and likes things about both cars. He really likes the Lucid interior, other than the sun visors that you can't move out of the way. Coming from a Model 3, the software in he Model X is more familiar and works better than the Lucid.

Ok, so Tesla moved up my next available window from October to July 17 -> August 7. Question is, do I accept delivery of the X now and sell it when my Air is built, or cancel the X and just wait for the Air? Have a Model 3 Performance I'm driving now and it works just fine. But I could use the gap between the car timelines as a way to play with the X? No matter what I'm taking delivery of the Air... Tough decision!

I guess my question to the forum is: what do you think my estimated wait time for a Black/Mohave Grand Touring will be? Confirmed my order July 1st. I sorta expected it to be a late 2022/early 2023 delivery. That seem reasonable? Earlier? Later?

Those are 3 vastly different vehicles...personally I would wait until delivery was imminent and see if they pull the same thing on you again and them blog about it!

I'd say with a GT, that's a good estimated delivery timeline. I'd be surprised if it wasn't delivered by somewhere in the first two months of 2023 at the latest. One of the things they implied strongly when they tried to get me to upgrade to a GT from a Touring was that a GT ordered by July 1st would very likely be delivered before the end of the year.

It won't be the end of a quarter this next go around, so I don't think they will pull another VIN from me.

And yeah, really different vehicles. I'm more looking for something fun, new and inspiring to play with. Frankly I think the Air fits that more than the X, but also... May be nice to play with the X while I wait for the Air? I wouldn't keep the X though, so dunno.

Great data, thank you! Never know, maybe someone will give up their VIN as it becomes available too. It's a tough decision, but I also consider myself lucky that I'm in a place where I get to make this decision.

Wow, that’s insane, never heard of a VIN being pulled because you needed to wait to take delivery. Well welcome over here! You may have seen the ozone system my brother designed out at Canaveral, they live not too far away from there in Titusville, and can see the Space X launches from their back yard.

At least when you get your Lucid the Software will be more ironed out, although they’ve already made a lot of progress in the last few months. The more I drive this car the more I’m realizing the best thing about it is how versatile it is, nice at low speeds, monstrous at high speeds, like it’s almost a teleportation device it’s so quick from 60-120mph. But then you can fill it with tons of stuff in the front and back, while listening to an amazing soundtrack, as you finish charging quicker than the other vehicles next to you at EA stations, and then drive further without worry. You’ll find a few disgruntled owners on here but I’m happy, I’d buy another one if I had the $$$ to burn.
I'm a new member here. I can totally understand your reasoning for ditching loyalty. I've been following Lucid since they first demo the car to investors. I was never so excited about a car as I'm for Lucid. At Tesla, the attitude (The Shit) flows down (I'm a Tesla owner too).

They should get anything confirmed before July 1 delivered well before the end of this year, perhaps before Thanksgiving, but definitely by the end of the year. My November confirmation was slow walked with the "grey delay", supply chain issues, wire harness recall, and a factory shutdown with enhanced PDI. It is taking about 7.5 months for the delivery on Friday. If they can't do it now in 6, they have much bigger issues.

I would be pissed too. Sadly public companies have obligation to their shareholders to push those quarterly numbers to meet/beat guidance. Many cults invested Elon and thus heighten that expectation.

I cannot agree more this is a driver’s car, not a millennium generation’s car loaded with gaming entertainment with laptop like dashboard.

For me, treating people / customers with respect is the key thing. Everything has engineering trades. But great customer service helps end users understand why those trades were made. Not sure that makes sense or not.
Yes, business is about taking care of customers. Especially for “luxury” brands, service is paramount. I wouldn’t call Tesla a “luxury” brand knowing what I have heard which steered me to Lucid as well. Now I’m a very happy owner of AGT. 😊

Depends on when you ordered it, Tesla will honor ordering price, with multiple price hikes over a year, your car may be worth more than what you get it for, it may be possible to flip it for a profit, check your numbers before making decision, unlikely your Lucid will come before 11/2022, My order from 03/2022 is still not Vinned

I might wait for Lucid's quarterly earnings call & see what their production ramp is. We know they halted in June to re-work quality on the line, but you may get some more realistic projections for timelines coming out of that discussion as folks do projections on this forum.

No price differential on the X Plaid for me. I got in just after they brought it up (and as luck would have it same deal with my Lucid order -- whoops!)
As of today I have cancelled my Model X Plaid order as well as my Cybertruck order. Just not excited about those anymore. More interested in the Air GT, Rivian R1S and Gravity. Maybe once Tesla deploys FSD to the world I'll look at it again, but even then... meh. I think I just like driver assist in LA traffic, don't really need FSD, IMO. Dunno, depends.
