Question about HFDA

2017 Bolt, 2023 LAT
Was at Cornell officiating a wedding this weekend. On the drive over I took I-84 to HWY 17 to I-81N. Was on HFDA most of the way with no issues at all. On the return I took I-88 north to Albany where I got I-90 to exit at Lee, Mass. Again, HFDA all the way and again no issues. Went down backroads and got to Winstead, CT where I picked up Route 8 (which runs all the way down to Bridgeport) and it was like HFDA all of a sudden had a psychosis. Every few seconds “Be Alert! Watch the Road!” which was followed by “Hands Free Assistance Unavailable” to “Drive Assist” and suddenly BRIGHT RED “TAKE CONTROL NOW!!!” :eek: complete with the klaxons blaring like I was on a starship under fire. Did this happen one time? No and I cannot honestly tell you how many times that scenario played out. Turned it off, turned it on and same results.

So that had me wondering if anyone using HFDA has the same type experience where you live on one particular road. I can tell you here in Connecticut Lucid does not like Route 8 at all coming and going, north or south. It was rather aggravating especially after performing so well for the past 300 miles or so.

yes, there is a spot on the freeway here where my Air will wig out, my loaner Gravity wigged out, and my Tesla wigs out. All in the same spot where a freeway goes under another one.
 
It's funny you mention this. I had the TAKE CONTROL NOW happen for the first time this past weekend driving on 95 in CT on relatively open roads. I then shook the wheel a few times but the car then said coming to a stop or something similar. That was a first and not really sure what caused it.

Edit: to be clear, I have never had those recurring alerts you're describing. I've gotten the take control one, but this was the first coming to a stop one.
 
I took a ~3000 mile road trip in my ‘25 AGT with DDP in June and had tons of recurring incidence with this, on my return trip. I cannot explain why it was so solid on the way out, and so flaky on the way back.

I haven’t tried it on a long trip since then, so can’t comment on current incident rate, with slightly newer software.

I wonder to what extent a good GPS fix is needed for HFDA to work (I suspect GPS is involved otherwise HFDA would work on any road just based upon the other sensors)... GPS fix quality does vary with the weather and other factors, and the difference between a fix that is accurate to single digit feet and one that is at 20+ feet could be significant.
 
I wonder if the angle of the sun could have been a factor.

Good point, though it would also point to different behavior just based upon time of day (daylight vs nighttime)... has that been observed? (I don't use HFDA myself, as I LIKE to drive the car. ;-)
