Kim Java - Preview Gravity?

I definitely think Lucid needs help in their marketing department, but I am always apprehensive about “influencers” vs the people who put their own money on the line. Something about Kim just feels inauthentic, no basis for it other than instinct. Watched both the pickup and the Escalade comparison videos. I am curious the contract that she and Kyle have to follow, but I imagine there is some NDA involved naturally.
As much as Engineering Explained really hurt the brand (imho), there are countless others out there that are documenting after purchasing or leasing that I feel lend to a more authentic perspective.

This is probably a hot take in general, so I await the flaming coming my way.

Ads are almost by definition inauthentic, but they still work (reminds me of the movie "invention of lying.") What really matters is if the content is good and gets engagement. Obviously the product has to be able to perform as well. This video is also interesting, but almost looks like lucid is on fire sale. Wonder how long they can continue surviving only on these lease deals.

This is typically true at launch, where folks might not be allowed to talk about software issues or something similar, but at this point in the product life cycle, I highly doubt there's an NDA of any sort. Plus, I highly doubt Kim or Kyle would be willing to take long-term loaners if that was the case. There is enough generic content on the car; their platforms would benefit from true, detailed analysis.

Seriously? Well, your opinion suck lol. If you truly believe in a world of level 4 to 5 autonomy and it's not safer than humans, I'm completely speechless. The current Lvl 2 with supervision is safer than most people out there with their eyes glued to their stupid phone. But I digress. Good luck.
Hey bro, it's ok to disagree but you don't have to take this and make it personal. If I believe that the path to a majority of cars on the road having FSD will be bumpy and isn't as rosy and idealized as you or others see it and you don't believe that, that's ok. It doesn't mean you suck, just that your outlook is more idealistic than mine....no biggie.

People do suck; some can't drive well, some don't supervise their car driving w/ FSD; some release SW on the public before it's fully baked.
Being on the road is probably the most dangerous thing we do in our day (unless you're an ice climber!) so be safe out there. I'll see you in my rearview mirror

I only saw 5 crashed/exploded cars on my last 2 days road trip this weekend:) None of them were that modern or EVs or anything with some sort of good ADAS that was for sure...

Yep, Tesla software is the bomb….really good. Issue I see is Lucid has 3 touchscreens, Tesla 1. Doesn’t that make it more difficult for Lucid to achieve the same level of quality?
I really don't see the number of screens making a big difference either way on how hard it is to have polished feeling software. The main impact is that the user interface design is more complicated if you want to give people an intuitive way to arrange the UI elements across different screens to match their own personal preference, but that isn't all that hard.

Yep, some can't drive well,,,and crash their cars; and ya, none of the ones in your huge sample size were EV's, or had ADAS...yet
Just wait 'til some of those drivers go buy MY's w/ FSD now that their cars are crashed/exploded. I can just hear it now: "Oh I don't have to pay attn..it drives itself"
I see a plethora of 'em "driving" into the Silicon Valley daily, working on laptops, scrolling their cellphones, shaving, doin' their make-up in the rearview mirror, etc..
"Hands free", "eyes off" are one thing; "brain off" is another!

Out here it's truly the wild west...be safe on the road everyone

There are currently no eyes off ADAS systems for personal vehicles available yet. GM is trying to be first in 2028. That DOES NOT, of course, prevent some people from behaving as if there is.

My last comment here. Basically, you are implying that you would prefer to see these buffoons doing all of these things you mentioned without any sort of ADAS instead. That you actually believe it will be safer to do all of these things without the Level 2 FSD. Because, let's be honest, they're doing it with or without.

🤯

Okay. This thread has gone way off topic.

Any further comments about Java, her takes on Gravity, the merits of giving journalists loaner cars, etc. are fine.

If we can’t get back on thread, or if folks are generally talked out on the actual topic, we’re just going to close this one out.

Oh it has nothing to do with what I prefer; for me it isn't personal. The nature of most new things is to have uses and misuses.
My point is just that the development of these systems isn't as utopian as many theorize and that FSD gives a lot of ppl a false sense of security so they depend on it to an extreme that it wasn't intended for considering where the technology truly is at this point.

Back on topic: I think You Tuber's and especially Kim Java's joyous experiences with a Gravity as a family road tripper will be good for the brand even if her or her hubby is a diehard FSD fanboy/girl

Zoox, Waymo, et al are already L4!
They are both in limited areas IIRC. In the bay area I haven't seen Waymo/Zoox outside of San Francisco (although I think they may be making their way down to the south bay and silly valley, I haven't seen either Zoox or Waymo anywhere in the San Francisco East Bay. So they've got a ways to go before Waymo/Zoox can claim to be able to fully replace someone's car.

Lucid's only chance to achieve anything close to FSD is to license someone else's vision model, maybe Mobileye.

They are not an AI company. Their software engineers can barely make basic functions work, like keyfobs, windows, etc.

The amount of infrastructure capacity and AI talent needed to do what Tesla has done is out of reach for Lucid. They barely have money to survive a couple more months.

Lucid is partnering with NVIDIA for consumer-level driving autonomy.
They have repeatedly stated that they currently have funding to take them well into 2027.

I wonder what kind of deal they will have with Nvidia, especially for the cars they already sold with the DDPro thing. Tesla is already charging $100/mo and they have a big pool to draw from.

I hope we'll find out sometime next year.

To be fair, I see a lot of people doing those crazy things while not paying attention in regular “no ADAS” cars all of the time. At least with FSD someone/something is paying attention. I think one of the biggest challenges for FSD (or similar systems) is avoiding those crazy drivers without FSD that are not paying attention.

Been watching a number of the more recent Gravity YouTube reviews, and they are coming off as a lot more positive than the early ones, no doubt. A number of people even remarked about how they didn't hit any of the issues other people had complained about in the past. SO it does appear as if software and build quality are finally close to being on track.

I did find that there is surprisingly little Gravity content overall, though, on YouTube. At least compared to other cars that have been released in recent years. So I do think Lucid handing out some long term loaners was a smart move.

It's hard to get attention for a car that's now two years old. But they had better figure it out, because they will have little else to talk about between now and probably the middle of next year, given they want to hold off on revealing Cosmos until closer to launch.

True. Anecdotally, I've heard genuine "are they still around?" from car people. Today's media allow more targeted marketing, that can make a company like Lucid dissappear to people who probably don't matter anyway. The downside can be measured in a few, arbitrary, click-farming influencers deciding to bake a bad video, like problems with 10KW chargers, going 40A at 100F, to reference the most recent (nothing to do with the car). That and, of course, Carplay.

I'd like to think Lucid matters to people who want a better driving experience, as well as some ADAS. Kim and hubby have come back to the internet producing content, sexifying it more, and deliberately framing themselves as counterparts; one pro FSD, the other focused on utility/the growing fam. Robust discussion says they did a good job targeting their audience.
