We find ourselves on I-75 near Sarasota frequently. The number of dump trucks on the road speaks to the insane building taking place. So in May of this year on our way out of town we heard a very loud bang but had no explanation that was obvious. On arriving for a charge at the WaWa in Yulee I decided to clean the windshield of the numerous love bug splotches. Low and behold a nice star fracture in the lower passenger corner of the windshield.
Safelight couldn’t fill it since their machine would not fit in the corner. Lucid Riviera Beach informed me that Windemere Collision in Winter Garden was their certified collision shop including glass replacement. I found Windemere to be very professional and easy to deal with. I informed my insurance company (AAA) that I would be using Windemere. It took 6 weeks for them to get the parts after I deposited half the cost of the parts. We scheduled the repair for two days but it took four since they don’t work weekends. Since we only have one car and we live in Sarasota I arranged for a rental. It was only by chance that I found out Hertz has a satellite office IN Windemere Collision.
Anyway , 7 weeks and $3662.67 later we have a new winshield. Oh , and $177 for the rental car. Both costs were covered %100 by insurance.

Edit: Sorry, didn't realize it was behind a paywall. The gist of the story is he will do for windshields like he did for beer, less competition, higher prices.

Safelite only deal with non-OEM glass. They installed non-OEM on my Hyundai. Had to fight to get OEM do so I can see my HUD clearly. And of course, the replacement showed up as another glass claim. Bunch of scammers!

I would have challenged that second claim with the insurance company

I took my BMW direct to the dealer, paid for it myself then filed reimbursement on insurance so they couldn’t pull any monkey business like non OEM glass.
 
Most of my miles are highway, and Colorado is horrible for rocks kicking up (and road maintenance in general). Our previous cars have gotten hit at least a dozen times in the last decade, half of those resulting in cracks needing new windshields. But those were like $1000 windshields, not $3600 (one guy on the forum was quoted $9000!).

That's why I got XPEL Windshield Protection Film put on mine. It's not a guarantee, but it should reduce the odds of a crack quite a bit. Cost me $700 installed but some say they found it for just $500. Buys some extra peace of mind.
 
~3k isn't too bad for windshield replacement, from the other threads I've seen on here. Good reminder to call your insurance agent and verify glass is covered. Lots of states where that's not the case.
 
My three week old Gravity also just developed a cracked windshield, and the crack doubled in size within 24 hours. Luckily, I already had a service appointment scheduled. Lucid Service in San Diego quoted me approximately $2,350 for parts and labor. Now I’m waiting to see what games the insurance company decides to play.

Progressive insurance, they wouldn’t budge. I actually had a small chip on my Lucid windscreen, prior to applying exoshield. Safelite guy came and said too small to worry about and didn’t do anything. Of course, that shows as a claim as well….amd they wouldn’t remove it. Insurance companies are just unethical.
 
At the Seattle SC, they replaced my windscreen parts and labor $3.9k I have the HUD, insurance covered it with no issues. Lucid took care of some warranty / recall items and provided a vehicle (Air Touring) very happy with the experience there. I think the calibration required presented some challenges but all works as it should.

Do you have the full glass roof or does your car have the steel roof? Interested to compare the glass replacement cost between the two. Thank-you.

When I have gotten windshield replacements at Safelite (2 for my wife's previous 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum), you just had to inform Safelite when you made the appointment that you wanted OEM glass. My insurance company didn't argue with it.

This is correct and has been my experience with Progressive as well on two windshield replacements. The only caveat being that the lead time on OEM glass can be significant. So if you're insistent on OEM, or have no aftermarket alternative, you could be waiting awhile.
 
All of these windshield posts make me more solidly insistent that I won't get a gravity, until I can get an aluminum roof.

I didn't want a glass roof anyway, but y'all have really hammered home how uninterested I am in ever having one.
 
I'd be a little surprised if anyone even makes a non-OEM for the Gravity.

I'd have preferred a solid roof too. I love a lot of things about my Gravity but the glass extending up higher than normal is not one of them. Not only does it make a windshield replacement extremely expensive and hard to get as discussed, I hate the way it lets sunlight in above the visors. I've installed sunshades all around, but they leave a gap above the visor.

The high glass is a negative to me, not a plus.
