I'm on a road trip and using my new BougeRV 21qt refrigerator. It works great, but one odd thing. When plugged into either the 2nd row 120v outlet or the cargo area outlet, the car shows it drawing 153w (it's charging the fridge's onboard battery too). But the BougeRV app says it's pulling 81w. Seems like an awfully big gap for power loss through it's power supply brick. The brick does get pretty warm though.
I don't remember the exact numbers but my BougeRV 30qt without the battery doesn't draw anywhere near that much when using it's ECO mode. I've only used it in the Gravity after pre-cooling it in the garage the night before leaving on a trip. When I looked at the usage during the trip it was ranging around 30-40W plugged into the outlet in the trunk area (and with the separately sold insulated cover).
I suspect DeaneG is right and the app shows the power draw of the cooling unit only but it's drawing more to get the battery charged. Curious, is this the unit with the dedicated battery or the newer one that uses the 266Wh power station as it's battery power?
With the power bank version it seems likely the fridge draws power from the power bank and that's what is reported in the app and then the power bank has it's own draw to charge it's battery, causing the discrepancy. The fridge would have no way of knowing how much the power bank is drawing without some kind of communication between them.
Could be. The app says "DC input" which would seem like it means the entire DC input, but maybe it is just the input to the fridge itself and not what's going to charge the battery simultaneously.
Edit: I just noticed the "solely battery input power" note. So that explains it.
It's the unit with the internal battery. There doesn't seem to be an obvious pattern to when this thing calls for external power to run the fridge and/or charge the battery. When I get back in the car, it can take a while (many minutes) for the car's outlet power display to show it's asking for power. Took a about 5 minutes this last time.
I did have it on MAX but just changed it to ECO since it's cold. I'll just leave it on all week during the trip, of course.
Right now the car is showing 37w, but the app shows 0w DC input, and the fridge display is not showing the charging lighting bolt. Odd.
Ok, now it's making more sense. Since it's plugged in it's not drawing anything from the battery. All line power. Which it why the car display is showing 0w so often... It's only drawing power when the compressor cycles on.
Only remaining question is why it's not charging the battery when it's 84%. Maybe it won't go to 100% when in use?
