Kim Java - Preview Gravity?

Kim just uploaded update on this video and she did get a long term Gravity loaner (like OOS) to drive. She complains about primitive DDP without handfree or slow down for turns. Lucid really needs to do a better job of briefing people getting these press cars before sending them off.
Sorry, Lucid is just too busy working on a top-secret project. Apparently, they don’t have time for anything else—this project must be even more classified than Area 51. 😂

Who knows? Maybe they’re about to announce a time machine or teleportation system—because apparently you won’t need FSD, Level 4, or even Level 10 driving if you can just teleport! 😂

Wow. I thought her initial impression video was quite positive. She was practically gushing about how great Gravity was for her family, and its silence, comfort and luxury compared to her model X.

Lucid's current DreamDrive Pro does maybe 10% of what FSD can. No hiding that.

I think these long term loans are a great idea on Lucid's part. Everyone can find something they don't like when testing a car for a day. But you discover more of its strengths over time.

Her family strikes me more as a ‘I want my vehicle to drive me’ than ‘I want to engage and drive my vehicle’ types.
Yes, and I wonder how Napoli's brand review is going as this would seem an open lane for Lucid to exploit. I'm wondering if Misha Charoudin's is also a press car?

She commented on the Lucid App, which I've thought for awhile needed updating. The fact that it wasn't working right where there was no internet signal wasn't surprising to us, but I can see that being a surprise. Seemed also like she was expecting PaaK and no one told her it wasn't available yet. Keyfob is the primary access method right now.

Overall, I thought it was a good first video. There are shortcomings and places where it excels, as we all know. Hope things go well.

Mmm, I tried it the other day but it’s too slow to react and frustrated me too much. I just took over, it was less stressful for me to drive. If I have to stare at the road and my hand immediately available, what’s the point!
I was referring to Tesla FSD…..

Do we think the new leadership team is ready to handle the press and fire from two big EV youtubers simultaneously:P

Although I will say, another Gravity appeared in my neighborhood last week, so maybe we consume far too much bad press ourselves here....
I too saw another Gravity rolling around my neighborhood. And one Air with a driver who doesn’t seem to like it when I wave. LOL. One of you?

She does say it's Tesla 8 years ago, however, in her newest 'first Gravity video' she is generally very positive about all other aspects and both she and her kids seem to love the car. All of her kids said they prefer the Gravity to the X.

We know how this review will end. Superb car, extremely practical, excellent charging, minor software bugs that are improving, DDpro is not FSD (yet). The bugs they do or do not experience will be the deciding factor on how strongly they recommend the car.

I think it's going to be good publicity. Outside of Tesla fanboys that can't get over FSD, normal people looking for the best practical family car are going to see it shine for this family of 5.

For the Tesla people - enjoy the model Y L. That thing looks dreadful and is a massive step behind the Gravity in every practical way. Passenger space and comfort, storage, luxury, driving, charging, etc. Go watch some reviews like Everyday Chris. The third row has the persons head sticking out of the damn trunk.

Yeah, you can see most of the comments on the video are pretty well received but the Tesla fan gang has posted a tremendous amount of can't give up FSD or disappointment in how far behind Dream Drive is to FSD (tho she didn't demonstrate it at it's best on an actual highway, just on side streets or routes where it just isn't that good at all) and they wouldn't consider Lucid unless it is there. So I think even when they do eventually get to their L2++, which she says is now been told to her to expect in first half of 2027, unless it's at the same level or better than FSD, it'll still be looked down on. But Lucid could score SIGNIFICANT points if they can even come really close to it with a lot of people. We shall see. Just gotta say tho, must be nice to be an influencer like that and get a FREE 100k+ car for 6+ months! Here we are paying/leasing our cars like suckers! 😂

My daughter had a bachelorette weekend a couple months ago and one night they took an Uber Model X. Even her friend who is all of 4’ 11” complained about how horribly cramped the third row was.

Who needs a marketing department when you have YouTubers and instagramers? Not like Lucid’s marketing has been all the stellar.
Getting these long term loaner cars into major YouTube influencers hands is a very good move. Fortunately the Gravity has now matured in both hardware and software over what it was back last summer when initial reviews were done. For me the early Gravity videos from OOS Kyle Conner had a lot of influence on me looking at the Gravity to buy.
At this point in time, the biggest issues with Lucid is not their lack of FSD but rather their poor customer service and service center issues. I would bet that these influencers will not have to go through the same run around the rest of us have to go through when something goes wrong.
The game changer on these long term reviews will hopefully be in 4-5 months when Lucid hopefully drops the NVIDIA Point-to-point (FSD like) ADAS system. IF this system delivers as promised and these reviewers go from saying DDP is only 20% as good as FSD to maybe 80%-90% of FSD, you will see a lot of peoples opinions change.

I don't think the majority of prospective buyers care as much about point to point FSD as the Internet comments may suggest. It's specifically the Tesla people.

I don't doubt that current FSD is very nice, but honestly current ADAS is sufficient for my needs and I think it performs very well. Hands off (no nags), adaptive cruise control speed, lane keep assist, and auto lane changing is a GREAT highway experience on current Gravity software. Anything else from here is pure gravy. I don't think I'm alone in this opinion and I expect this is more consistent with the majority of prospective buyers.

Like Lucid, Tesla has a loud fan base. Except we have significantly more to be happy and vocal about😋. I'll turn off on my own exit while enjoying a markedly more premium and practical experience in every conceivable way.

I was very excited about and test drove the X a few years ago expecting to buy. The passenger experience was miserable and the driving experience left much to be desired. It wasn't a premium product. Wife would have divorced me if I bought it.

I didn't start out a Lucid Fan Boy. I had never heard of lucid 2-3 years ago. I wanted the best product on the market and Lucid delivered. We are in process of buying my wife a Lucid Air or waiting for the cosmos. I've had the Gravity now for about a year and have overall been extremely happy. It's a fantastic car.

At this point a lot of folks won't drive something without FSD/FSD equivalent, but with Tesla only offering the 3 and Y, I'd imagine many are willing to give up automatic city driving for more luxury, comfort, speed and practicality.

Based on the video, it seems like Kim's husband is in the former camp, but she could be in the latter.

I agree that a majority of the people on the YouTube with “will never buy a car without FSD” or “xxx car’s self drive is nowhere near as good as FSD” comments, are just Tesla fan boys posting to trash talk and not fully representative of a majority of Tesla drivers. I saw a stat sometime ago that Model X and S buyers had much higher use of FSD vs Model 3/Y. With S and X going away, those owners are probably not going to be OK with downgrade to 3/Y and so many will be looking to cross shop other brands in the near future. Currently, Gravity is at least comparable to most of its large/luxury EV SUV competition from Cadillac, Rivian, Mercedes, Porsche etc. with regards to ADAS. Getting the NVIDIA “FSD like” system up and going (and reliable) by end of year or early next year will give Lucid key advantage in attracting those prior Model x/s owners.

While I completely understand not wanting to give up FSD, I think the hold up with the Gravity has more to do with tech than ADAS. I see a lot of Tesla bashing here and it feels quiet silly comparing a $100k+ luxury SUV to a crossover half its price, because come on, the Lucid SHOULD be better. And if we're being honest, at the end of the day, I'm sure a lot of people will go Model Y L over the Gravity - even for those that can afford it.

Not because of FSD, but because it works. Every freaking time. PAAK works (still non-existent in the Gravity almost two years after "launch"). The car turns on. You just get in and go. No surprises. You have appointments available within a week and Tesla service, at least to me, has been responsive. My wife wanted a Gravity. We "settled" for a Model Y. Not because it was the better car, but because I wanted my wife to have something reliable that works each time. She is not a car person. She loved the Gravity and thinks it looks nice but as I'm sure a lot of us with spouses can attest to - the second the vehicle does not operate as expected, Lucid will have a very unhappy customer and we will have a very unhappy wife. As for her though, she loves the Model Y and thanks me often for going that route.

The FSD fanboys in the comments are not representative of a potential Gravity buyer. FSD is to me the cherry on top to pick Tesla. Now that the software is maturing I think the Gravity is headed in the right direction, but half-baked tech has been the Achilles heel of this brand from my outsider observation. The Gravity is great. Very easy car to sell - assuming Lucid can ever get it to fully function as advertised (seriously, where is PAAK? lol)

There's definitely a massive assumption on the part of FSD fans that no one wants to actually drive anymore.

The numbers don't bear that out. At all.

Sure, Tesla sells a lot of Model Y. But millions of people are buying non-Teslas every year at the same time. If EVERYONE can't live without FSD, no other car maker would have a single sale anymore.

So if you like your car driving you around, you don't have a choice. But a whole lot of other people don't seem to value that as much as the internet would like you to believe.

I'm not bashing Tesla for the sake of bashing Tesla. As I stated, a few years ago I really wanted to buy an X but didn't after I rented one for a week on a vacation. It's a specific response to the NON STOP comments here and elsewhere regarding 'BUT FSD!!'. With the X being discontinued the only Tesla left to compare to is the Model Y L....and so I do. They are completely different tiers of cars, with completely different capabilities, as the prices reflect. I have never been a brand loyalist. I have bias towards finding the best available car judged on the totality of the vehicle's capabilities. The Lucid Gravity is that current title holder. If another brand comes along and develops something better I will go get that one next. From where I'm sitting Lucid and the Gravity will be king for the foreseeable future.

You are probably right that some people who could afford a Gravity will be scared away from Lucid due to concerns about reliability and support, and will choose a Model YL. Fair enough I suppose but drastically overstated if you ask me. And the Model Y L certainly would not be my second choice as I don't consider it even luxury adjacent amongst other issues. As an aside, you may recall Tesla had a nightmare of support challenges after the 3 and Y came along in volume. Tesla has had 10 more years to build up their support network and it is now pretty robust. Lucid will too.

Software is improving and now largely very stable, PAAK and other features will come. Even if there were zero additional features launched, I still believe the Lucid Gravity is far and away the best luxury family SUV on the market in every way after having it for a year and previously doing extensive research. I personally am not worried about Lucid being around in 5-10 years. The cars are simply too good for this company not to succeed.

The Gravity's software launch was legitimately rough (bugs, incomplete features, responsiveness issues), which is well documented in here. But I'd separate that from the tech being "half-baked"

What was broken at launch - Software stability, UI responsiveness, feature completeness. Lucid shipped before things were ready.

What wasn't half-baked -The underlying tech architecture.
  • UWB hardware for PAAK is production-ready, the firmware integration just wasn't ready at launch it seems.
  • DD Pro hardware suite is fully capable of L2++, it's probably more validation/rollout delay, not a hardware problem.
  • Charging at 400+ kW on 1000V chargers, 225 kW on 500V is real, proven performance.
  • The software-defined vehicle architecture means they can actually fix the launch disaster over time without changing the car.
The difference? Half-baked tech = poor design/poor hardware. What the Gravity had was a half-baked implementation of advanced tech. Lucid overextended on the software side, too many features, not enough time to stabilize them.

As the software matures (and it has), you're seeing what was always there, capable hardware running increasingly stable software. The tech is impressive, the launch execution wasn't. Those are two different problems.

For me, anyway, it's pretty good now and definitely in the easy-to-enjoy range.
My primary wants now are fullscreen Android Auto (should be coming soon from Google, but TBD) and Google Digital Car Key. Maybe next month? We've waited on third-party certifications before.

Anyone buying the Gravity now shouldn’t have too many issues on the software front as it’s been stable for the last few months now (at least for me). The key issues are gone since 3.6.0.

PAAK should hopefully be just around the corner but the AR HUD seems to be the elephant in the room still. While the software has certainly become stable Lucid still has a long list of things to deliver on what was promised.
