Decided to see what the small tire is all about with a 0-60 test through launch control.

I haven’t heard or seen anyone do it, and I do understand it’s embarrassing. I won’t claim to be the first in the world to do it, but first in the world to publicly share it.

It is…embarrassing.

Even in Smooth mode without launch control, there's enough torque to make those Hankooks fight for traction.
0-60 in a straight line isn't guaranteed.

I noticed that the other day when I made a left and saw I had less room than I thought. I drilled it partway through the turn and long chirped even though I was in smooth and I have oversized 21’s, not ev, pzeros
So yes there’s a bunch available on demand
 
Somebody should try a pull on drag radials!

Is that on the stock 20" setup? I dont think 285s will fit on an 8" wide wheel?

I remember watching a video where someone slapped on super narrow wheels( like emergency spare size) on an EV, and gained a bunch of efficiency.

hmm, I have launched my Gravity GT on the Hankooks without TC on and barely get it to chirp any tires...needless to say that road launch time was high 3s? 3.8 or something...

Mine Gravity GT didn't chirp, just spun the wheels, wriggled strongly (had to countersteer) and made eraser-on-asphalt sounds. Smooth mode, accelerating from 10-60mph not on launch control, about 80F, normal asphalt street.

I am as close to drag radials as anyone else is today, I got a custom 275/295 max performance summer tire on stock large wheel. Pending move to rear 315.

All that eraser noise was with traction control on. I should have tried with it off but then I guess that would be…a lot more eraser noise.
 
I misspoke - mine was with traction control on - not launch control. Corrected my post.

In sprint I squeaked it at 30mph. Nowhere near the traction. In an ICE vehicle it would be a non stop burnout past 100mph

8” I was referring to the road contact patch. 285s on small wheel are 9.5” wide

I do get the smearing noise if I get it right with TC in partial or off in Sprint...all from the front tires, car still bucks pretty good on launch and nose lifts...Do we know if tire pressures need to be adjusted based on tire width and compound?

My loaner tires were 42/44 at launch. When I got it the numbers were 47/49.

10 seconds of deflation front and 12 for the rear is what provided blind results.

My winter all seasons or my summer setup have never chirped on launch.
 
What are you running on your new wheel and tires? The same as the stock 22/23 Pirellis?
 
To add, I don't think I have ever launched the car at a SOC above 90% either...so not exactly the ultimate test result...
 
You would need smaller diameter rims, like 18" to get proper sidewall flex also. But might not fit brakes?
 
The only thing about my GGT that I find disappointing is the performance of the 20/21 Hankooks. I knew going in that these are touring all-seasons and don't expect much from them on a 6k lbs SUV, yada yada....I get it. Really, I do, it was a compromise I was willing to make to get an otherwise perfectly specced car out of inventory.

But I still find their performance disappointing, given I care basically nil about noise or efficiency.

When these need to be replaced I'll have to find a summer tire for the small wheels. Nothing available in stock size, seems like you have to bump down the aspect ratio to find any decent options from a performance standpoint. I guess the stock sizing has too much sidewall for anyone to bother.

Right now I am running 275/295 on stock 22/23” wheels. Next step is a 315 rear tire on custom 22”

As far as running 18”…don’t think the front brakes will clear below 20” current smallest size.

Also, EV are so good at traction management you only need to give it a sticky enough rubber to get most traction.

An ICE vehicle would have spun those 20/21” past 100mph at this power level and never hooked up.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV is available in stock 20/21” size, look again. Might have to find the tires individually on TireRack but it was one of my thoughts before I traded my small wheel for a large.

I might switch to those once my Hankooks are used up. They're very quiet and efficient, but don't have much grip in any direction.

Sorry I meant are you running the same tire pressures as the recommended setting for the 22/23 stock setup?
