Center console tray trapping small items

Today I was reorganizing my center console storage and pushed the tray under the dash so I could fiddle with stuff underneath it.

Now the tray won't come forward. There was a small transponder I had in the front part of the tray that fit very easily under the lid when I slid it forward, but now it is stuck like that annoying ladle that blocks your kitchen drawers. I tried reaching in to flatten it as I pulled the tray out, but the gap between the tray and the lid is so small that I can't fit my fingers in there.

Has anyone had this happen and is there a quick fix that doesn't involve disassembling the entire center console (months from now when I can get an appointment to do that)? I need that transponder for tolls (*).

(* - And, yes, it's supposed to go on the windshield but I'm still in the "making sure that rectangle I think I see is compatible with the transponder" stage...)

I found a glossy heavy stock piece of paper (an old Real Estate flyer) and was able to slide it into and above the transponder and then slowly pull the tray out. If it had been wedged in there, a disassembly might have been necessary. Getting it to go above the transponder without pushing it further back was the tricky part. I moved the tray in until there was a larger gap between the tray and the lid and "encouraged" the paper to bend upward (and over) through that gap, then held it there while pulling the tray out to where the section with the transponder was right at the edge and then slid both together past the edge.

So, lesson learned, nothing shall go into the tray except maybe a phone that sits flat or a drink that stands tall...

Yeah, I too learned this lesson very quickly. I put my sunglasses in the part of that tray that looks like it was made for sunglasses. I didn't realize there's a big wedge hanging down under the glass cover. I haven't found a better place to stick them, but now I make sure to lay them perfectly flat every time...

I stuck it inside the driver door pocket wall closest to the seat. Probably less scratches from now on too!
