Take Care of Your Windshield!

24 hours later is looks even better. Can barely tell it's there. Just slight rippling in a few spots. Gotta really look for it to see it

And no impact on the HUD image that I can notice.
Had mine sitting in the garage since last Wednesday and took it out for a drive for the first time today. Ngl kind of disappointed. Theres a rippling right at eye level that puts it a bit out of focus and I started getting a headache after a few min of driving. Not sure what to do. Might try cleaning it and see if it helps at all.

That sucks. They told me to treat it tenderly for the first week, so maybe wait to clean unless doing it lightly. They say it can take up to a week for the water under the film to fully go away so hopefully that's what it is.

If it stays that way after weeks, you can try to talk to the installer and see if they'll redo it.

This shouldn't be. We have Xpel on 2 cars and fortunately don't have this proble.
You may need a re-do.

I had that issue with my exoshield install. Unless it is gross imperfections, they won’t replace.

But I got used to it after a few weeks. Now I hardly notice. But I’m willing to accept this to protect the windshield.

I might get mine removed. It sucks but after having driven around a few days my wife and I both get headaches almost right away from the slight warp in the view. I guess I’ll just have to hope and pray the massive windshield doesn’t get damaged over the next 3 years, which doesn’t like a fun experience at all.

Update: Insurance approved the repair at $9,833. Perhaps the Lucid rep was correct.
I had a rock hit my windshield as well, then the heat came and so did the giant spider crack. Took nearly 3 months to get it fixed. The first body shop which was the closet to me was Cranston Collision. They are a mom and pop shop who did nothing but waste my time and kept fighting with me and my insurance company. I then went back to Lucid Natick List of repair shops and Kings Collision in Plymouth, MA was top of the list. I am told Lucid Natick no longer handles windshield replacement in house and the employee they had trained to do is, works at Kings Collision. The cost to repair the windshield was just over $4900 and Kings did a great job from start to finish. I would highly recommend them. Stay away from Cranston Collision total mess with them. 9k is price gouging if another approved shop can do it for half that price.

I hope it doesn't happen again as this was an ordeal to say the least.

Sorry to hear that but glad to hear u got it resolved. Curious, after you were able to get in touch with Kings how long of a process was it from there?

From my first call to Kings to finish of the work about one month. One week or so to process the claim and then It took 3 weeks to get that glass delivered to them and two days to get the work done.

Some additional insights on glass replacements. Interesting that Safelite Solutions doesn't even post a phone number for shops.

Shops Get Caught Between Automaker Positions and Insurance Requirements

Excerpt:
Rollinson explained everything that was happening to the customer, including the insurance coverage complications. That kind of customer education and involvement is crucial in these scenarios, she says.

“Always CC the customer when you submit a request to cover OEM glass,” she says. “The insurer [or TPA] probably won’t include the customer in their response rejecting the request, but you can forward it to them anyway.”

Not only does this keep the customer up-to-date, Rollinson says, it also gives them the information they need to advocate for themselves.

“The insured is the one who ultimately pays the [insurance premium] bill, so they have that leverage with the insurer,” she says.

Rollinson says that customers frequently choose to avoid the time and hassle of getting approval by simply paying the difference between aftermarket and OEM glass themselves.

“And then they start shopping for new insurance,” Rollinson says.

Sean Fagan, owner of Appalachian Auto Glass in Boone, North Carolina, says some of his customers pay for an OEM glass replacement out-of-pocket and later submit it to their insurer for reimbursement.

“I think insurance agents have started recommending that insureds do that, because that’s been happening a lot more, recently,” he says.

This is what I hate about full glass windshield/canopies. My first thought when seeing it was "That's gonna be a damn expensive nightmare to replace when it gets a crack". I'd much rather have a frame up there to separate the windshield from the sunroof. I guess somebody thought it was cool looking or something but to me it's a big negative, not a positive. Our cars rack up 80% of their miles on the highway (road trips) in states where rocks and cracks are inevitable. I'm dreading when (not if) it happens.

I'm really torn about putting protection film on the windshield. My eyes are already a bit of a mess, and I don't at all like the idea of adding a little distortion from a protection film to everything else I have going on. But I also would like to avoid the headache of a windshield replacement. Maybe I'll find that the protection film is so minor compared to other vision challenges I have that it isn't even noticable. I really have no idea, never having had a car with film on the glass before.

I had Exoshield on my 2023 Touring. It was great and I am going to put it on my 2026 Touring.

It seems that the protection film can affect drivers differently. I have no problem with it but my wife finds it to be very distracting. There are also different types of film which can produce more or less distortion. A good shop will be able to show samples of the various film types on glass. My best advice is to have all drivers involved in evaluating film options and then choose the best solution.

Even if an insurer covers the cost of an OEM replacement windshield you’ll likely feel the effects of the repair in subsequent renewal premiums.

Literally fuck my life. I just need to gripe.

1-2mo into my lease got the first windshield crack of my entire life.
1mo ago I had actually put a WPF on. But it was in such a shitty condition I had to get it removed. At least they did xpel tinting at cost.
Then today on the highway I hear the biggest rock I’ve ever heard cracking into the windshield. I knew I shouldve passed that asshole driving at 55pmh on a 65mph highway to get ahead of the hauler in front of him.
Now I’m waiting for the traveling repair guy to show up.
Fuck me. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong as I feared.

Thx for letting me gripe.

Ugh...sorry to hear that. I'm getting mine replaced this week as I got my ding (that turned into large vertical crack) 2 days before leaving for my cross country trip in Aprl. lol.

BTW-You said you have someone coming. But note to others, if you get a rock hit, go immediately to SafeLite so they can prevent it from turning into a crack that travels. I got mine late on a Friday and by Monday, it was about an inch long and couldn't be stopped at that point. SafeLite guy said always come by right away even without appt and they'll usually keep it from traveling. Mine took about a full month before it "found an edge" which was the top of the windshield.

Mine went from zero inches to 7.5” in the span of 4 hours. He guys r saying they can fix it so I got my fingers crossed.

Oh yeah, and it started at the edge.
