Lucid Air Pure
Typing as I’m stranded waiting for a tow after my Air lost all drive.

Went for an acceleration on an off ramp in Sprint. As soon as I hit the throttle there was a big thump from the rear and all errors on screen. First issue I’ve had with the car in 20k miles.

Hopefully Lucid Torrance is in the loaner car giving kind of mood.

Good luck, hope they fix it quickly for you.

Used Lucid support phone number which punts to their partner for towing. Took 20 minutes to find someone, and another 50 for the tow to arrive.
Car is heading to the Torrance center without me and we’ll see what happens in the morning.

What year is your Pure? Did you have your half-shaft bolts fixed under that recall?

24. Had a mobile service about a month ago. I don’t remember if they did that one or claimed it needed to be at the service center.

I don’t think that was it however. Rolled to a stop and quite a bit more to get it towed, heard no mechanical issues like a half shaft flopping around

Update. Car healed itself overnight (of course it did). I did try multiple hard restarts when I was sitting in the car stranded.
I am receiving a loaner.
Interesting note of RDU Overcurrent Detected on the work order.

That Fleet Health Management is the "big brother" component of Lucid service - this indicates Lucid has already diagnosed a fault remotely. I'd take it as a good sign; you don't need to worry about service being unable to reproduce the problem or asking you for additional details.

Lucid's Fleet Health Management is one of the standout features that they don't tout enough imho. I see it as the successful execution of an ideal we have about how the future should be. Service called me out of the blue last year when FHM proactively diagnosed a coolant pump issue remotely. I was able to schedule the replacement at my convenience, and coordinated with my local service center who turned my car around in one day.

I just got our AIr Pure '25 back from service for the Half Shaft Bolt recall. Millbrae SC. They had it 2 weeks and did indeed find the bolts needed to be replaced. AND, they said the rear drive unit was damaged by the issue to the point where it also was replaced. I asked yesterday how many Airs have needed the RDU replaced. He said it was the first one he was aware of. We never had an issue with it, but thankful it got fixed!

Service center wasn’t familiar with the particular fault.

An engineer did call me later and follow up with my chain of events.

Were you able to get a GT motor dropped in there?

Backchannel comms told me they’ll be replacing the drive unit and inverter.

In the meantime living with a brand new Touring priced 20k over my car isn’t too bad! Though it’s tricky to interpret what is better about this one between being 2 years newer model, being brand new and not even broken in, and being a higher trim level.

Spent a mostly road trip type day with the Touring. 150 miles, most of which on the freeway at 75-80 with some city driving and a number of big power bursts, not hypermiling by any means.

Calculated real world total range from the day at 345 miles. Despite being heavier than my Pure and dual motor, the efficiency seems slightly higher than my Pure. Still a far cry from the advertised range, but seems do be doing a better job compared to its on paper range than my older Pure. Efficiency of the day was 3.7 mi/kwh. In my car I’d expect to see 3.5-3.6 in the same conditions.

I have a Pure too and some like the way pure handle due to being lighter. What do you think and which one do you prefer?

A bit split. This car has noticeably heavier steering likely because of that front motor, axles, and weight. Sometimes it feels nicer from a ‘weightier’ perspective, reminds me of the weight of a throttle pedal in a Porsche. What I don’t like is I find myself wandering in the lane a bit more at highway speeds since small drifts require more correction force to center than my Pure.

Handling wise the whole car feels tighter and more substantial over cornering bumps, I feel much less chassis upset than my car. Again hard to differentiate trim level difference from age of car from 2024 vs 2026 improvements.

Heck, I'd tell them to take their time with the repair!😂

The only annoyance (and frankly minor given the positives) is lack of app connectivity. Living with the key and lack of ability to check charge status and start remote climate is definitely missed.

I do appreciate that the power level is more split in drive modes in the touring. In my Pure, the max power level feels identical across drive modes, but the Touring gates quite a bit of power behind sprint mode.
