The Lucid air is nuts. As I stated before, I own lots of cars and if I could only keep 2 it would be my Porsche Spyder and the Lucid. The 2026 Crown Signia I recently purchased is a very good car/wagon. The BMW 440i is a great convertible with a great engine, and with the M package makes a great noise. The Audi S5 … well it’s an Audi so a pretty good all rounder. The rare sports car that I keep down in Florida is a head turner because it’s unique and rare. It would be tough to give up.
But the Lucid air touring I have is nuts. It seats 5 people and 4 super comfortably, spacious, luxurious, 2 trunks, a great ride and excellent suspension, goes 700 km on a charge, you never have to change the oil or pump gas in the freezing cold, you can refuel it in the comfort of your own home, never worry about spilling fuel, and has blistering speed (I can’t imagine the sapphire). A sports bike recently raced me off the lights and I beat pretty handily - that’s nuts! Even I was surprised- he was shocked - he was giving me multiple thumbs up, shaking his head in disbelief, and after we slowed down, he was staring at the car and asking what it was.
So for me it checks every box for me. As a daily driver I just don’t know what else you could ask for. Yes there has been teething challenges, as all first model years have. They made some major mistakes with the software and not having switch buttons like Porsche Audi Toyota and BMW for things like trunk release. Get rid of the gimmicky door handles, etc. and give me a fob with buttons. I just got mine back from service and once again, they were exceptional. Returned the loaner and picked mine up - detailed, and no issues. But these are all things that will improve as they learn about mistakes. I love this car. As as a traditional sports car guy - I still love my NASP engine, a clutch and shifter - I’ll never give that up. An EV for driving joy will never be a match for heel and toeing, double clutching, and Rev matching- but neither are DCT’s auto boxes. But honestly I never thought I would love an EV this much.
The second reason Lucid is nuts is they have zero idea how to market this car. I posted the interview where Bob Lutz said this was “the best car he has driven”. Why not use that on a ad campaign instead of paying Timothy Chalamet for a useless marketing scheme for this vehicle. It may be different for the gravity- I can’t speak to that market segment. The average age of a buyer of the Air must be somewhere between 50 and a fossil. It’s an expensive car so market it to the age segment with the most dough. For the Air at least, your competitors are Mercedes, BMW, Bentley, Aston, Porsche. No car with the features of a Lucid can come close to the lease rate they offer. You need to take that market share. The monthly carrying cost of a lucid is close to the cost of Kia for crying out loud.
Anyway, at the end of the lease I’ll be looking at a Cosmos or another getting another Air. I think that highly of the car.
God I hope the company survives. You have this car guy as a believer. Good luck Lucid.
