Phone/Tablet Mount

I just got this phone/tablet mount for my Gravity and it's perfect. Strong clip, super flexible positioning. Works great for the 15.6" monitor I like to install for the passenger seat on road trips.


I mount a Starlink Mini with suction cup mount in the rear side window, and we have a Superbox to stream live TV. The mount holds the monitor perfectly where I want it (in front of the dash, not in the way of the side mirror for the driver). The dash has a lip that's much deeper at the 2 air vents. It clips deep into one of those, holds strong, and doesn't seem to interfere with the air vent.

Fair point. The owner's manual shows the passenger airbag being in the upper part of the dash somewhere. Not sure what actually opens up for it to deploy. Maybe that raised edge up by the windshield? Or the whole dash lifts up? The main dash surface looks like one piece.

In any case, I don't think this this would interfere much. While I say the clip is strong, it's still just a spring clip that would get pushed off with much outward force at all. And the monitor is really lightweight (1.5 pounds). I'm surprised how light these things are. Of course, anything the passenger is holding or sitting on the dash is gonna go flying when an airbag deploys, but this isn't so latched on (like a thumbscrew clamp would be) that I think it would prevent the airbag from deploying.

I'm afraid I am with @mister_caroline on this one. The passenger's face will ultimately be buried in the passenger front airbag upon deployment - this puts a really hard surface between the face and airbag.

Maybe move it to the center and it will be missed by both airbags? The airbag for the driver is in the steering wheel...

In any event, be careful.

Yeah that airbag is going to launch that screen and mounting arm right into the face of your passenger.

We'd probably keep it off to the side so I'm not really worried about that part. What I do wonder though is where the airbag deploys from. I'm just not seeing an obvious spot. Now I'm wondering if the cloth edge that I'm clipped onto is what lifts up. But the more I look at that it seems unlikely because it runs continuously over to the driver side, and curves upward deeper into the dash. So it doesn't looks like it would work for a hindged opening. And it's all one piece, not something with a dividing line on the passenger side.

Oh well, I'll tinker with it. It's better than setting it on a lap table, which is what we did before.

From this video (1:15), it appears the Gravity's front passenger airbag must be located on top of the dash closer to the windshield. Looks like it fills the area above the dash, not deploy well outward into the passenger's sitting space (from the front of the dash), but rather acting as a head protector above the dash line if the passenger lurches forward.

Setting anything on top of the dash (which no doubt many people do anyway) would likely get launched. Keeping items below dash line looks like the safer bet. I'm always amazed at the people that have their feet up on the dash. Or out the window.

It's interesting that the warnings say not to place anything "where the airbags deploy", but then don't describe precisely where that passenger one deploys from very well. Some are obvious (like the steering wheel) but the passenger one on the Gravity isn't obvious without hunting for videos of deployment. In many cars the panel/piece where it's located is labeled "airbag", but I don't see such labeling for that one (unless I'm just missing it).
