Apple Key coming to Lucid

Yes I’m actually very excited for Apple car key support. It will be way better than the Bluetooth based key that the air had and that many other car manufacturers use.

Sorry, I don’t know how anyone buys or leases an $80,000+ car (depending on trim) and doesn’t know it doesn’t have PaaK yet, how access works, etc.

Sure, PaaK will come via Apple/Android Keys at some point, but you’ve got to buy a Gravity for what it can do today. It takes a long for the software to change and features to be added and, frankly, focus has to shift to mid size or they can’t stay in business. So, if PaaK never comes to Gravity, I will be okay with that.

Not trying to be rude, just think we all have to be realistic. Lucid is selling very few Gravity and Air when compared to other EV makers. It’s the best car I’ve ever driven, but I’d rather they stop with Gravity features and ensure the midsize is stable and launches on time.
 
Agreed...what good is a car w/ PAAK if there's no longer anywhere to service it anymore!

C'mon Lucid, step up the owner experience!!

i don’t think anyone ever said that they were upset or that they bought the gravity for what it would do in the future I traded in my air which was the best car I ever owned I didnt bother to even check passive phone as a key support cause I’ve been using it for years. I’m not upset and the gravity is still the best vehicle I’ve ever owned based on what it does today. But that does not make it any less nice that it is getting passive phone as a key via Apple car keys in the future.
 
Can someone please explain how the “Apple key” will add some functionality beyond what is presently available in the air using my IPhone?

Air likely wont be getting the "Apple Key" feature, this is for the gravity (which does not have PaaK as of now)

The air does not have the necessary Ultra Wideband hardware to support Apple car key however Apple car key has a few distinct advantages, including that it works if your phone is dead for several hours

I wasn’t meaning to say anything other than a) I was surprised someone wouldn’t check to see how a car is accessed before committing to acquire it and b) not looking for others to agree on how it drives, whether it’s good, etc.

That said, I realize not everyone spent years hanging on every thread of Gravity info that dropped out until the car became available. 🤣

Maybe after they deliver the features they told us we'd be getting, they can pause. ;-)

I'm nearly done with 3 months of camping across country and "Camp Mode" would have been really nice. I had reached out directly to Nick Twork about this back in March and he had said 'I don't think it's making it into the next update...let me check...' Never heard back from him and here we are in mid-July and still nothing. (My guess is it will come out the day I get back home in Sept. lol)

Back to Paak: I cannot tell you the number of times car camping, where I had my fob in pocket and sat, moved, rolled over, got out of car, etc. and suddenly I hear "blink, blink" and my frunk or tailgate is opening. Cannot wait to be rid of my early 80's technology! lol

But how does PAAK work with Android phones then?

Android phones also have UWB and a car key capability in Google Wallet.

Yes to PaaK but I don’t think camp mode or any other “promised” feature should be developed at this point. But don’t want to get off topic.

Hopefully, next big release is PaaK but it IS interesting that the last release included an update for FOB that (for me) gave it more range and more responsiveness. It’s still super annoying to have to carry a fob. I can’t wait until I can put it in a drawer and forget about it.

Exactly the same way with Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet. Check your phone's specs to see if it includes UWB.
If not, it could be time for a new phone!

Disagree with you on this one. Lucid made it a point to show owners a Gravity video as part of the demo process to secure orders and ultimately sales. That video showed AR on the HUD, Camp Mode, Streaming Apps among other things. It’s not a good look if they just decide to wipe their hands of promises made. No idea why they can’t even have all the Sanctuary Mode videos they showed off. They promoted that mode so heavily and then only gave part of the videos shown, it’s weird.

It feels like they are always chasing their tail with software. Stomping out big bugs that impact usability and rarely managing to get to "nice to haves" like extra sanctuary modes.

True but it's a problem on Lucid's own doing. When I picked up my Gravity in June 2025 I was told PAAK would be coming by September. Didn't realize he meant September 2026 :p

Joking aside, I think that was the word of several months ago, correct? Some time this fall?

I haven't heard a similar finding for Google or Samsung yet, but it could be that it's not as visible as it is on iOS.

Yeah, I think the messaging from the beginning of this year has been pretty consistent with “Q3 release”.
