I’ve scheduled to have my Gravity windshield, roof, and front windows tinted with LLumac Formula One: Stratas window tint. The tint I selected is clear with 70% light transmission which should meet California code for tinting. The tint film has a high rating for blocking infrared. I live in the Sacramento California area and take summer road trips to the midwest. My primary objective is to reduce Infrared Heat gain.. (It’s very hot and very sunny here in Northern California.) I would appreciate any reactions or other experience with window tinting the Gravity..

I did a …20% match I think on the front windows to the factory tint on the rear. It was XPEL XR Black. I went a step above this one on my previous vehicles but it did have a slight blue hue which I wanted to avoid as I was only doing two windows. I was loathe to do my usual all around + rooftop tint on a lease. I did order the OEM clip in sunshades but found them wanting (rear one kept coming down). I am waiting for some cheaper 3rd party options to come out.

If I do purchase another Gravity at the end of my lease (lots to be seen between now and then) then I would go your route and do a complete tint on it.

Not something to worry about, but the 70% tint that California code specifies includes the tint the vehicle was built with, which is often...73% VLT green glass. In those cases, applying more than a few percent of additional tint is technically illegal, though no one cares.

I used 3M Crystalline 90 on our Volvo's front windows to block UV and IR. It has 90% visible light transmission (72% total transmission on automotive 73% VLT green glass) with 59% IRER and 95% IR blocking. I wanted to be able to see pedestrians as well as possible at night.

Got pulled over by CHP on the 395 outside Lone Pine headed to Mammoth Lakes in our Tesla. Guy says "I pulled you over because you have no front plate and your windows are tinted"

I just looked at him "Yep, I sure do. Like every Tesla on the road in this state"

Had a friend who is LEO sign off on the ticket for me. What a waste of time.
 
I did 15% all around and 35% on the windshield.
Sounds and looks dark but inside no issues day or night

Llumar is the brand you’re getting. I have used it for 25 years on all my cars. On my Gravity, the shop that wrapped it had me try a new 3M Crystalline product; it’s max IR and heat rejection but only goes to 50% or so. I’m not convinced it’s doing anything better than the Llumar I usually get

I too would be very interested in whether others have tinted their windows, and which ones.

I’m reading all windows and windshields come with 99% UV protection, and 80% / 54% IR on the front / canopy.

On the rear windows I’m reading there is no IR treatment unless you have the comfort package.

Was this correct, and would love to hear what others are doing. I’m leaning towards add’l IR film on top and rear windows (I don’t have comfort).
 
Does anyone have experience with DIYPRECUTTINT.com? As with all things that seem too good to be true, asking a friend.
 
I did 25% on the front windows to match the rear. I never tint windshields or roofs. Also in the Sac area. Just make sure you’re getting it done at a reputable tint shop.
