Air Touring
My 2023 Air Touring has a broken left front suspension and steering. I hit a rock half buried in an otherwise well-maintained dirt road and horrible noises ensued. My car is at the Lucid Service Center in Scottsdale. They recommend a body shop called Raintree who say they are the only Lucid Certified shop in AZ. However, my insurer (Farmers) does not have them in their repair network of approx. 58 shops in the Phoenix area. Claims adjuster says that I can use Raintree, but they cannot guarantee to fully cover the repair costs.

So my question is this: does anyone know of good body shops that have worked on Lucids in the area? Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Marcus

I think the problem you're going to run into is the shops ability to get Lucid parts. My understanding is that Lucid will only sell parts to their certified shops. This should be a persuasive enough argument with Farmers to have them cover the repair in full. My guess is that your adjuster is not familiar with Lucid and the closed nature of their repair network.

Arizona law gives you the right to choose the repair shop. Farmers cannot require you to use one of their "preferred shops" that discount, use used and aftermarket parts and in some cases not follow OEM procedures. Lucid certified centers are factory trained to follow OEM procedures and guidelines.

When Farmers says we "cannot guarantee" ask them specifically:

"Will Farmers pay for all reasonable and necessary repairs required by Lucid's OEM repair procedures? If not, please identify in writing which repair operations or labor rates you believe are not covered." If Farmers refuses to pay for OEM-required operations, ask them to identify the specific policy provision or repair procedure they are relying on to deny payment. That puts the burden on the insurer to justify its position rather than on you to guess what they might not cover. This will help you recover any cost that are denied in a court of law.

You may want to ask your agent if you have the right to appraisal provision on your policy. It's not mandatory in Arizona on auto policies, so it's possible that Farmers does not offer that (it's that way in California).

Raintree is likely familiar with this, but it is essentially a tool for a policy holder to use when their insurance disputes the value of the loss. Each side hires independent, disinterested appraisers to determine a reasonable cost of repair.
