Because they were extremely distressed.
My takeaway is that no car is safe against locking unless you have a key (fob, card, phone, watch).

I am having this exact same problem with my Air. It’s been in the shop 4 times for attempted repair and it hasn’t been fixed yet. It is absolutely a safety issue.

Straying off topic and trying to get people to take bait, I wouldn't expect any less.

I could claim to work for Lucid and say we're about unveil multiple new projects. Point being it's the internet and if you're taking everyone and anyone at their word is a slippery slope.
 
Coming back on topic, hypothetically speaking then what would be the best remedy? For example, is the key fob now reliable enough where one could carry the key card and fob separately to address this? Same with phone app? For example just keeping the key cards at home as a contingency.
 
Luckily I was at home, key card in hand, just doing this to see what would happen. But yes, I closed my fob in the car, it locked after a short time, and pressing the door handles did nothing. This is not just new user "FUD." I thought maybe it was a signal dead zone like the Air originally had, so I moved the fob from one of the front cup holders to the passenger seat and tried again. Same thing happened there. My fob battery is fine, proximity locking/unlocking works 100% of the time when the fob is on my person. I suspect this is the fob going to sleep. I do get the "no key detected, try shaking it" alert periodically if I just sit in the car. Maybe it would wake up and reconnect on its own eventually, but there's certainly no way to give it a shake when it's inside the car.

Says the person who joined 2 months ago. It’s okay to just admit this should never happen and is a major problem. Lucid stock doesn’t need any random FUD to continue to sh** the bed, so maybe just believe someone when they share a story. This isn’t the first time this has been reported and despite people saying that pushing the door handle should unlock it, it clearly doesn’t work all the time.

The suggested workarounds for Lucid’s shortcomings are unbelievable - if my wife drove one of these and this happened, the car would be gone the next day.

I do. Yes I could also unlock it from my watch normally, but like the OP mentioned, that (and remote unlocking in general) only works if the car has cell service. I was specifically testing this before a weekend of backpacking in the mountains of West Virginia, where there definitely is not cell service, to see what I should be prepared for.
 
If you are sitting in your car with the fob and the doors lock you wouldn't want the car to unlock by pushing the handle in from the outside or there's no security to protect you from car jacking

...jus' sayin'
 
For anyone doubting this is a "thing" with kids, don't. I run into this problem on a nearly daily basis when i exist the car, close the door, walk swiftly around the front or back fo the car to the passenger rear door to get my daughter out of her car seat. The car almost always locks and then I stand there for sometimes 10-15 seconds waiting for an unlock. It always eventually does, but it's definitely an issue I believe related to the general lock/unlock phone issue we all know and hate. The scary thing is when the doors lock the air shuts off and in summer down here were in 100+ degree weather often.

When i can, i leave my drivers side door cracked when i get out, although I've even had situations where the door is just barely ajar, but open, and it still locks shut. The locking mechanism catching it while technically open, in other words. So if I keep it open it has to be legit open, which isn't always easy (or safe) in public.

It's my number one fix request.

It's not as simple as that. Yes I also want it to stay locked if the lock button was pressed while inside the car, or if the car is in Drive / was in Drive and no doors have been opened yet. Otherwise I do want it to unlock from the outside, because I'm outside. It'd be great if it had a keypad or something as additional confirmation, but I'd settle for this.

I'm thinking you have auto-lock turned off, which is an obvious solution.
With auto-lock off, aside from having the fob in your pocket and somehow the lock button is pressed, this sounds like a service issue.

Most owners don't participate in this forum. To me it's entirely plausible that a negative experience with the vehicle would be what prompts you to find the forum and vent your frustration. Add in that we've seen similar reports, and I see little reason to be skeptical.

Tonight was the second instance where I was locked out of my Gravity, but this time my kids were inside. I drove home, parked in the garage, got out of the driver’s side, closed the driver’s side door and the vehicle immediately locked with a quick double honk / beep, with the fob, keycard and my phone inside, along with my two small daughters (3 year old and 5 month old).

The only reason my car was not cut open by the fire department’s jaws of life is that my husband left his key card home while on a business trip, and I was at home.

I want you to imagine this same circumstance at 3 pm, in central California where it’s over 100 degrees, with no spare key card in reach, you stop to charge your vehicle somewhere along the highway at a supercharging station, but no one else is around to even borrow their phone.

Did you know the windows of the Gravity are laminated acoustic glass so they can’t be broken out?

Not sure if you're aware, but sending an email to [email protected] detailing your experience may be the best way to ensure they're aware of your experience.

I'd argue that the bug is locking while the key is inside. Any delay they could pick will be a flaw in someone's eyes. But it’s hard to imagine that anyone thinks the car should auto-lock while the key is inside.
