do you know that Lucid started to deploy AC chargers publicly in malls and key areas ? and It is free of charge. 135 chargers already dployed

I was able to charge at one of them about 3 months ago and I thought this is one off charger by them.

it turns out Lucid is serious about deployment of their own chargers. I know they are AC chargers, but they are free and they are installed in places where you will park for a long period of time for at least 1 hr or so like restaurants, malls and so on

this is the first announcement officially I see from Lucid about 2 weeks ago

I heard as well Lucid Saudi is working with the government to provide free electricity charging in your house, if you get a lucid/ maybe any electric car

That's pretty cool. You know with AC chargers being just a few hundred dollars, I'm not sure why more destinations don't offer them. For many people without easy home charging, the ability to pick up a few kWh here and there could be the difference between owning an EV or not. Smart of Lucid to get their name out there.

agreed, destination AC chargers would be a big help. Wouldn't hurt to have a nice top-up of a few percent here and there when visiting places

Home chargers (EVSEs) are a few hundred ($500-$800, typically), but commercial AC chargers are thousands. Especially if they want to include payment processing.

And the cost of EVSEs is often the small part. It's the wiring and power supply that's the big part. Even at home, a $500 EVSE is commonly $1500 when you count wiring for a dedicated 50A circuit. Scale that up for a commercial site that wants to install 2-4 EVSEs in a parking lot (digging through the asphalt/concrete).

Commercial AC chargers can easily run $5k-$15k to install. Then add ongoing electricity cost and maintenance/repairs. And of course the impact of losing parking spots for normal use.

They're great for those of us benefiting from them, of course, but the cost decision for a business is a different matter. A lot more than a few hundred dollars.
 
It’s ironic that a country whose economy depends on oil is going EV….while the present administration in US wants more gas and coal……

I think they both want to leverage their oil and gas resources. Hell, even Norway is still cranking out oil by the millions of barrels a day, while also having the highest EV adoption rate in the world.

It's not either-or, it's both.

(And yes, it's unfortunate this this topic "went there", because once someone starts it.....)

I think lucid was smart of how to go about it,

They installed chargers in places that had previously old or broken chargers or the infrastructure was ready for chargers to be installed. And lucid just replaced old chargers l, add more or finished the job with new chargers.

Since i am one of few people who have Lucid air, I almost know all chargers’ locations so I can plan around them

Besides I like to keep the AC on while the car is charging so I can come back to it and it is nice and cold

one would think that if battery tech gets better that solar farming will be the future for them
