Gravity efficiency is low for me

Hey. Just wanted to check with you guys on what efficiency you are getting for your Gravity GT for normal everyday driving.
I am constantly at about 2.75. On a good day I might get to 2.8. I am not able to go above 2.8, no matter what; even if I try hypermiling. I am doing my best to accelerate smoothly.

I just want to survey what you guys are getting. I see on NotchEVs videos he is always at about 3.0. I am wondering if there is something wrong with my drivetrain and if I should get it checked out by service.

What was your expectation for efficiency when you bought the Gravity?

Anything from 2.6 to 3.0 seems to be the norm. There’s so many factors to efficiency and how people drive which is why it varies so much.
 
How fast do you drive? 75+mph on the interstate will do that.

For the type of driving that I do, I rarely exceed 65, so most of my driving is between 55 and 65. My lifetime average so far (7000 miles) is 3.36 last time I checked it.
 
Mixed city driving, will be 2.5-2.8 depending on temperature and how much u run the climate control. In winter time, short trips can drop to the 2s if battery doesnt have time to warm up. Pure highway driving, will net like 3.1+ in good temps. Also depends on elevation changes also.
 
Mine gets 3.0 pretty consistently in my “around town” driving in Park City. My 70 mph trips to and from Salt Lake City (20 miles each way and 2,000 foot elevation change) doesn’t seem to impact it much either way.
 
Well I am in the SF Bay Area. It’s 80% mainly city driving and 20% highway driving during rush hour, so not going very fast at all.
Seems like 2.75 does not seem abnormally low. What are people doing differently to get 3.0??

I’ve hit 3.4 mi/kWh by going about 60 mph on the highway over a 20 mile stretch of flat terrain. That drops to 2.8 if I go 75 mph. It also drops to 2.8 or lower during heavy rush hour traffic where there is a lot of rubber-banding (acceleration/deceleration) between 0-60 mph on the exact same 20 mile section.

Basically, high speed on highways and stop & go in city (or highway) kills efficiency.
 
Yea…I am a good example of what happens when you are driving really really slow through Manhattan city traffic or when you finally hit the open highway and you add up all the miles you missed…

How many miles do you have on your car? I can go as low as 2.6 and as high as 3.2 depending on a great deal of things. What tire size do you have?
 
Our GT is a pretty good example of the other extreme of the point @9point81 makes about efficiency varying on "a great deal of things." We picked up our Gravity GT April 25th in Seattle and have about 2000 miles on it. It's a 7 seat with 20/21 wheels. We have taken no major trips. Our driving in the Vancouver WA area is mostly rural-suburban with 10-20% I-5 and I-205. It's relatively flat, not too windy, not too hot or cold, not many lights, and we avoid rush hours where possible. Driving speed varies between 35-70mph probably averaging 45-50mph. I don't know if the data listed in the attached photo is really the efficiency of the vehicle but if it is we are approaching the EPA 437 mile estimated range for our configuration. Obviously a lot of factors enter into efficiency.

Here are stats for mostly 80 mph. GGT, 5-seater, mid-size wheels, 4 people with carryons for a weekend road trip. I forgot to start ABRP at the beginning so I missed the first 1/3 of this leg for speed/elevation.

I used ABRP only for stat collection. I used in-car nav with range spider and the 3.6.0 Google places integration for charge stop planning. I also used 3.6.0 hands-free for 90% of the trip!

ABRP car indicator shows where I started ABRP tracking. The end of the green segment is the charge stop. Total driving time from 90% charge to 7% was 3 hrs 50 min (includes dropping off passengers for food while I charged). We were more than ready for a break.
 
had a recent trip to Oregon and back (from the SF Bay area) and did around 2.85 mi/kWh overall, was honestly hoping for more. the only way I've approached the "EPA" rating was coming down from the Sierras with lots of regen. (GT, 5-seater, 20/21" tires)

contrast this to the new 2027 BMW iX5, now out of embargo, where there is a least one report above 3.4 mi/kWh (close to 490 miles total range, averaging 60 MPH speeds). As is common for BMW, performing better than expected. and that's on a "compromised," multi-purpose powertrain platform.

Smaller cars can beat Gravity on efficiency. It's still quite good for such a large vehicle.
 
the new iX5 xDrive60 is 196.6" long and weighs 2,900 kg (6,393 pounds) according to BMWBlog. that's not really small.

part of why it weighs so much and explains the range. still, the early efficiency numbers are promising. shame on BMW for getting rid of the split tailgate, for me that was part of the appeal.
 
I presume this is the aggregation of the data from @HC_79 from the Lucid (Air and Gravity) owners.

As evident from this data, the realizable efficiencies (hence range) driving on US highways/freeways are quite a bit lower than Lucid's claims (based on 5-cycle EPA, ang. 48mph). Lucid's claims are technically valid, if you drove like the 5 cycle EPA tests. I believe Tesla's methodology is similar. The disconnect is apparent when you compare Lucid to other EVs like BMW, Porsche, Rivian, Kia etc.. These other EVs utilize EPA's 2 cycle tests (plus adjustment factors) and are much closer to what users realize from their actual driving on US highways.

Overall, I DO think the Lucid cars are amongst the most efficient EVs. But Lucid's margin of efficiency leadership is much less than the manufacturer's claims over their competitors.
