I believe Lucid has stated somewhere that the Air is not designed for towing. And that attempting to tow anything would be bad. Like, crossing the streams bad.

Towing a trailer

WARNING: Do not tow a trailer with your vehicle. The vehicle has not been designed to have a trailer hitch fitted to it. The installation of a trailer hitch may cause serious damage to the vehicle, which could result in an accident or serious injury.
 
Not looking to tow with, but a hitch mounted bike rack would be sweet!!

Now we just need someone near Tempe, AZ to go get that free prototype hitch mount ;)
 
Practically all cars without an OEM hitch option claim the same in the US (laziness? liability?).
The same cars get tow ratings in Europe and do just fine when towing. The Model 3 is one such example.

Did the hitch get made, and is it available to purchase?

Did the hitch cause any issues?

Edit: I checked the U-Haul website, and it isn't there. Still, isn't anyone in the Tempe area interested in mounting a bike on a hitch bike rack instead of messing up the roof?
 
Really wish a custom hitch could be made to be able to transport heavier ebikes that can't use a roof rack.

I'd seen others successfully do this for Model S but I'm guessing very few people (like me) are adventurous enough to start drilling/cutting into their Lucid.

I would never have considered an Air because of the lack of a hitch, mostly for bikes. This would put it back in the realm of possibility for our family of 4. 400 pounds hitch weight is also way more than the Gravity’s 150 pounds (or whatever it is).
 
I installed their hitch on a 2015 Model S back about 6 years ago. Their products are very good quality and easy to install. The only thing is I hope they have good guides for drilling the hole in the bumper. I would hate that to be an eyesore on the look of the car. The Tesla was hidden on the underside and without the adapter you don’t know it’s there.

I was hoping there might be some informationI on tying in a harness for a small kayak trailer.

Also means I can unload the roof rails that are seriously non-aerodynamic and noisy.

Any concerns if this could potentially have an impact on warranty claims? I'd hate to give excuses to an SA to deny warranty claim under this guise even if the tow bar is not used for towing but used as a bike rack.

Does it impact DreamDrive operation? We have a hitch on our Model Y. It drives FSD nuts because it interferes with the rear cameras. Makes the car think it's being tailgated, resulting in some really bizarre behavior. Eventually an OTA included warnings that FSD operation would be degraded due to camera blockage and eventually an OTA informed that FSD was unavailable.
 
Good question. I haven't driven it with ddp on but when backing up, sometimes it slams the brakes and sometimes it says mounted object detected. I'll try ddp next time
 
I took it out for a couple of miles on ddp with my bike on the hitch. Didn't have any warnings or abnormal behavior.
 
@NoBrakes, does the occasional sudden stopping happen with the safe reverse features turned off? Any other issues with the audible alarms? I was about to make a bike rack similar to what I made for my IPaces, but wanted to make sure it won't turn driving the car into a nightmare.

The IPaces did not like having something on the back of the car and would rarely let me turn off the reverse alarms. The tone was so loud and grating I could barely focus on backing the car safely, but at least it didn't slam the brakes.

Safe reverse feature? When I reverse initially it'll brake and give me a message of I want to continue. I've had a couple of occasions where it wouldn't let me reverse so I just turned off collision protection and everything was fine.
