Window Closing Problems

Just walked away for a bit and came back, was finally able to get the window up again. There must be some nuance with the gravity's internal network/bus that causes it to get in some kind of stuck state. Same thing happened when I pressed the 2nd row button a bunch of times and it eventually just stopped responding.
I talked with the SC, and she said constant opening/closing of the window can cause it to overheat and stop working. After it cools down, it should work (I assume you've noticed this by now). Seems like an odd design. I wonder if other cars have this overheating behavior. She also mentioned the open/close and then hold the button down for a while to reset things, but that never worked for me (even using the half rather than full button position).

It is interesting to see if 3.6.0 has caused a regression in window behavior. So far, the walk away, come back after 15 minutes seems to eventually resolve the problem. I guess that's a win. I'm looking forward to the next release.

How many times?
I think she said around 5 minutes, but it was an offhand estimate, so don't quote me on that. My button completely stopped working after maybe 2-3 minutes of continual up/down window (with some opening/closing of doors). When I came back next time it started working again.

Interesting. I was starting to suspect a correlation with heat and window problems. My car was out in the hot sun and my front passenger window would not roll up while parked (I was not repeatedly rolling the window down/up). It started working after a few minutes of driving. I was thinking it might have been heat or loose connection.

I submitted a bug to SWfeedback yesterday with the following note:

Just in case it matters, I was parked outside on another hot day (high of 84, but it felt hotter) with the passenger door directly in the sun.

If it’s a thermal problem, a hardware fix would be required. It doesn’t explain window failures in cool temperatures, though (unless it’s a problem with the temperature sensor).

Definitely a possibility, as the weather warmed up a little here, but my money is on 3.6.0 being the main factor. My GGT is in a garage and the issue started before the current warm-up in weather. 3.6.0 could be more sensitive to heat? Maybe I'll go outside and test the window for another 5 minutes continuously :).

Some other notes: my window motor does seem to strain a little, but then all my windows sound similar. It's not weak, and promptly stops at the lower position.

I feel like 3.6 has actually introduced more bugs with the windows. And im seeing some random hiccups where screens not waking up, etc. Id rather roll back to 3.5

Window closing issues existed before 3.6.0. Software stability has improved for me.

somewhat different problem I've had but maybe it's related

My front passenger window when rolled partially down would only go back up once it is rolled all the way down
car was in for a recall and drive system coolant issue so I asked that they check to see if it was hardware related

as they waited for a part, they said they found out that if they recalibrated the rear passenger window it would fix the problem- pretty weird but here's the report from yesterday

I don't suppose they told you how to do the initialization, did they? I tried the close, then continue to hold for several seconds (and same for down, half press only). But my issue may be unrelated to yours. I wish they would put it a lot more diagnostic / debug information for end users. I think my issue is software related, but it could be a combination.

Solved! I just figured out my issues. Turns out my window was not fully reset in the "lowered" position. What i did to fix:
With window in partial-open state, push the down button until it wont go down anymore. Then, push the down button AGAIN and hold it for several seconds. In this case my window went down another 1/4" or so. Now do the same for the "raised" position -- pull the switch up until it wont go up anymore. Then pull the switch up and hold it for another 3+ seconds and release. Should be good now.

Just had the same thing happen, a few days after I updated to 3.6.0: passenger window wouldn't go all the way down, and when going up it would go all the way up and then trigger some sort of limit and come back down halfway. It seems almost certainly to be a software issue. It exhibited the same behavior even when the door was open, so it wasn't some issue with the rubber seals on the frame being too tight.

Single-chime and double-chime reboots didn't help, and the suggestion above from "legacy" didn't work for me, either.

Eventually I got it resolved, after some sequence of my holding the button up and down varying amounts of time, with the door open and closed, etc: something finally "reset" and it started working fine again. (Mostly. There is a lingering quirk still: when I open the door, if the window is all the way down, it comes up an inch or two, and when I close the door, it goes all the way down into the door again. It seems like the software has learned/set different "limits" for when the door is open vs closed).

This could be a coincidence with the software update and may not be a software problem. Instead, it could be a hardware problem with the window regulator.

I got “lucky“ while my car was in service. One of my issues was the elusive intermittent window problem for the front passenger window. On the very last day, just before my car was to be returned, the fault happened for a technician. A diagnostic revealed a regulator overheat and Service replace the regulator.

It’s too early to tell if this fixed the problem, as my intermittent failures happened only once every 1 to 2 months. I am hopeful, though, as an overheating regulator would explain the intermittent nature of the problem and random behavior.

My issue was a little different: it would always just stop and not reverse like your situation. Interestingly, the reboots/walkaways eventually fixed it, and it hasn't reproed in a while. Holding the buttun up/down for a while to reset it never seemed to make a difference. I wonder if you have an issue with the pinch detector (in addition to mis-calibrated limits).

I wish they'd expose these diagnostic codes to end users. Seems like an easy thing to do...

I experienced both symptoms at different times. One time the window hit the top then reversed. Another time it stopped at a set point and would not go all the way up. A third time it rolled all the way down and would not go up at all.

Hopefully, the regulator replacement will have fixed all these passenger window issues.

Same problem here now. Window stuck all the way down, getting lower and lower by steps every time I opened the door. Now it won’t move at all.

What a POS this car. Decades of having all sorts of cars and I’ve never seen anything like this. WTF is wrong with this company with everything related to doors?

Just had my car back from service a few days ago, and this happened to me. The front passenger window would not close all the way. Tried rebooting, walking away, opening and closing it like a maniac. Nothing worked until I found this thread. This solved the problem. Thank you.
I sure hope this will not happen again when the super El Nino hits later this year.
