Gravity - Tesla-Nissan
So I'd like to start with this is really the nicest car (by far) that we have ever owned. I'm also not bashing lucid nor am I saying that my experiences I will describe are even Lucids fault...a lot of it is probably user ignorance. I understand that even the issues I have will likely get worked out via software, but it boils down to its just not fun to drive for my wife, and I just took it on a trip from Ocala Fl to Baltimore and discovered I don't really like driving it either.
Now please keep in mind that we have had Telsa's for quite a few years, so it was a big deal to jump to Lucid. Once again, the Gravity is a way nicer car than the Tesla's, but we have had the Gravity since November and my wife still would rather driver her old Model 3 around town, and I found myself regretting not taking my Plaid to Baltimore. For me, a lot of it was the self-driving, but the Gravity really became a chore to drive after a few hundred miles, I have never experienced that feeling in any of our Tesla's. I know Lucid will probably out perform Tesla's FSD at some point, but I really missed it. Plus, and I'm sorry to say this as I usually don't talk in absolutes, but Gravity's navigation sucks. Neither of us have ever been even mildly impressed with it, but after this trip I now consider it bad. Long story short, it had us take many wrong exits (6 round trip). Another thing is that even using the voice assistant in navigation, it literally prompts you on the next move just seconds before you get to said "next move"...never have time to execute the maneuver, especially in DC and Baltimore traffic.

Also was not impressed with its charger routing and it would constantly want us to stop with over 30% charge left??? Another thing it liked to do was randomly change chargers with no warning. This really only affected timing as we would plan on a bathroom stop in say, 30 minutes based on next charge, then look down 20 minutes later and next charge is now 1 hour away? I know this could seem to contradict my previous point, but its just not something we experienced in the other cars.
One minor thing, I wish it would tell you when you have charged enough to continue trip.

DD Pro leaves a lot to be desired too, but I understand its very early in development so I'm only going to bring up stuff that annoyed me on this trip.
First, when in construction zones (and there is a lot on I-95), Hands free would get caught up in this never ending "enabled" "Disabled" loop and the alarms were very annoying to everyone in the car.
Another complaint is that it would frequently (maybe 8 times) simply shut off without warning. No rhyme or reason it would just...go away. It would tell me that it was unavailable, but only after it had released control of steering.

And then there was the constant worry that if something happened, there are no service facilities that can help. Heck, even getting a flat tire would have been disastrous lol

So there is a lot more that I don't mind giving feedback if requested, but I don't want this to be too long and become a Gravity bashing post. I also know that a lot of this is early adopter stuff which we have no issues with...well maybe we do lol!
It really is as simple as, or at least our preference is, the Tesla's are just more fun to drive, and the Gravity is a bit of a chore. Since this was supposed to be my wife's DD, its worth noting that it is big compared to what's she is used to (Model 3), but she gave it her best effort to get used to it. But the fact remains that she would rather drive the old Model 3, and she does frequently, and after this trip I took, I now understand how she feels.

I have already started the process of getting offers for it so I can decide if we "Carvana" it, or sell it privately, and it really breaks my heart as I followed this car for a long time. I still believe in Lucid and even own stock. I want soooo much to not have to support the other company and Lucid is who I'm counting on to sway us away....we just struck out this time that's all.

Thank you for reading and please don't hesitate to ask questions, but I don't really want to engage in "defending" my position, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind here, Im just posting my journey with Gravity

It is regrettable your experience on DDPro did not measure up.

I don't own a Gravity. I drive long distances on my 2022 AGT and 2023 Rivian R1S. On self-drive and navigation, I 'd prefer my R1S to my AGT for reasons similar to yours. I touched upon this subject on a prior post, so I won't repeat. Lucid.s DDPro/navigation are not there yet!

Why would you trust FSD with your life? Lucid makes the best driving machines. Looks like the wrong car for you.

You are making the right choice. This is not the vehicle for you. People should make careful evaluations of what they want, especially at this price range. Teslas FSD is your priority in life right now and no other cars on the US market today are going to compare. Lucid makes their cars for more of a driving experience and the self drive features are an added bonus but not the primary function vs Tesla where the FSD is the primary selling point. I think it’s good you figured out before it got too long and decided this was not the car for your family. Nothing wrong with that.

For reference tho, there are settings in your route planner that can change arrival percentage. You may want to take some time to read thru the manual and work with those settings before a trip. They are very easy to customize how it routes. Good luck going forward

It's just a car my friend. Tesla's are also great, just a different segment at this point. They don't make anything comparable anymore. We love our Y and use it daily for a commuter. What are you considering swapping out to? R1S?

I have a 23 AGT so my experience may not be applicable to Gravity. I've driven back and forth to NE from VA as well as a couple of 2000 mile cross country trips and have never had a problem with charging except one misdirection from native nav in MD. I can relate to your comments about the nav taking wrong exits and has been challenging around DC and Baltimore. I also relate to the disabled hands free mode and annoying warnings when I have hands firmly on the steering wheel at 3 and 9. There is the concern about the proximity of any Lucid service enroute but so far I have not needed any and carry a full size spare tire. I appreciate your perspective on your Gravity and sharing your candid observations. One should have confidence in a vehicle and I have with my AGT for three and a half years.

My old Model 3 performance was a kick to drive - very lively, point and shoot, with the ride of a go-kart.
My Air and Gravity are much larger feeling, deliberate, capable, luxurious. Two very different personalities.

Lucid's addition of Google Places to the navigation (with the 3.6.0 OTA) fixed 50% of my issues with nav. For me, the remaining issues are poor timing/helpfulness of voice output; lack of Google Maps/Waze incident notifications; zero reporting of police, accidents, construction, etc; and the depressing, robotic tone of the voice output. Fullscreen Android Auto with G Maps will make that moot around town, but won't help us on longer trips where we need EV route planning.

I think Cosmos and its siblings will be a much closer competitor in overall character to the Model 3 and Y.

I think adding google places to Lucid’s native navigation has been a game changer. I agree that Here navigation is not as good as Tesla nav. However, this is a very well documented and known fact since the gravity launched. That’s why having Apple CarPlay and AA are so great for Lucid.

If you want the richness of the Lucid map you can still run it on the lower screen while Waze navigates for you on upper screen. In fact, I consider it a real strength that I can run two maps at the same time and explore the area without disrupting navigation. Certainly integrating the chargers into Google Maps or Waze would be the next step, but the flexibility is a major plus for Lucid and a major and stubborn failing of Tesla and Rivian imo.

Sadly I think you’ve chosen to sell your car for something a few minutes of searching could have solved for you. Also, some of the other complaints are likely to be fixed with OTA soon, as you acknowledged.

As others have said, just not the car for you.

I get it, I took my first road trip in my Air last weekend, covering more than 700 miles.

For route planning, I ended up reverting to Android Auto with Google Gemini. It was great for planning charging stops, checking charger availability, police warnings, and navigating. It wasn't a big deal to manually start battery preconditioning about 15 minutes before arriving at a charger. The Lucid navigation is so pretty, it's a shame I'm stuck with a tiny map window for AA.

One Lucid-specific issue I ran into was that the car initially refused to lock the charging plug for DC fast charging. Since the plug must be locked as part of the handshake process between the charger and the vehicle, charging wouldn't start.
I tried locking and unlocking the doors multiple times and followed the suggestions from Lucid support, but nothing changed. Eventually, I asked ChatGPT for ideas, and it suggested using the emergency charge-port release cable in case the locking solenoid was sticking.

I found the cable and repeatedly actuated the charge-port lock mechanism to get some movement in it. After a few attempts, the lock began working normally again, and I was able to start fast charging without any further issues. The car had sat at the dealer for months with repeated pressure washings, and I think the lock just needed to be actuated.

Overall, the car is fantastic. The ride quality, comfort, efficiency, and driving experience are all outstanding.

That said, Lucid ownership seems to require a little more patience and a willingness to troubleshoot than some other vehicles I've owned. I've had a few moments of buyer's remorse during my first month, not because the car isn't excellent, but because it's a newer company and the ownership experience can occasionally feel a little rough around the edges. I do miss GM's supercruise which is excellent, but I wanted a Lucid with less sensors that only had adaptive cruise control, just for long-term reliability.

I do have the major issue of parking the car at home without mobile network coverage, so I can't use my phone as a remote and am forced to use the clicker remote.

The quirks don't really bother me too much, and I'm still very happy with the purchase. If anything, this first road trip reminded me why I bought the car in the first place. It's one of the best vehicles I've ever owned, even if it occasionally asks a bit more from its owner.

Interesting you say you don’t like driving the car because it won’t drive itself well enough.
While I enjoyed the humor of @JGard18's remarks, let's look at it another way:

> if you are an experienced pilot, you are flying the plane on autopilot on long trips. I think the OP's point is, the autopilot on the current instantiation of the Gravity is not as good as other EVs.

Same as you I'm just speaking from personal experience and I am not turning this into a general statement as I know it does not apply to everyone. But to me owning the Gravity has felt like a chore as well since I took delivery. I've dealt with early adopter pains for years with other brands, but I am clearly not prepared to deal with Lucid's.
Time to move on, as you said.

Having come from Tesla and still owning 2 as well as the Gravity your issues are more of a “you” issue and not the Gravity. You are expecting the Gravity to perform exactly as what you’re used to in Tesla. It’s not a Tesla and will not perform or act the same, good or bad. You need to be willing to accept change, if not then the only thing that will make you happy is a Tesla.

Factory nav always sucks compared to CarPlay or android auto 🤷

I just use CarPlay and charging apps I think most people do?

I’ll agree Tesla software is better, but FSD is not better (at least in my area).

Otherwise I’d say the Gravity on its face is still exactly what Lucid always said it was: a grand touring compact SUV that handles like a supercar. I think they set the expectation appropriately.

Still in Baltimore? Would love to see the vehicle as Tysons and KoP are really far for me.

> if you are an experienced pilot, you are flying the plane on autopilot on long trips. I think the OP's point is, the autopilot on the current instantiation of the Gravity is not as good as other EVs.
I own AGT for commute, have driven Gravity for a few weeks and been flying for 27 years hence know a thing or two about autopilot.
I much prefer Lucid DDPro that faithfully execute my command to follow the line instead of another brand that "does it all" but can catch you out anytime.
