Transporting Multiple Dogs in a Lucid Gravity – Setups & Recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering how other Lucid Gravity owners are transporting multiple dogs in the vehicle.

Do you use crates in the trunk, a dog barrier setup, or seat-based solutions like hammock covers and harnesses? I’m trying to figure out what works best when you have more than one dog in the car — especially in terms of safety, space, and keeping things practical.

From what I’ve seen so far, there seem to be a few common approaches:
  • Multiple crates (possibly stackable or custom-fit for the trunk)
  • A cargo barrier with dogs riding freely in the rear
  • Back seat setups with covers + seatbelt harnesses
I’d love to hear what setups you’re using in the Gravity specifically:
  • What fits well in the rear space?
  • Any accessories that work particularly well?
  • How do you manage entry/exit with multiple dogs?
Bonus points for photos or product recommendations 🙂

So on to the original question, we have two Huskies, one is 47 pounds and the other is 37 pounds (so midsized dogs, our previous dogs were a pair of Golden's who weighed 80 to 85 pounds each). They are actually car dogs believe it or not (once outside the car they can be a bit wild sometimes). We put the dogs in the middle row and they just lay down. We put suitcases and such in the foot well between the front and 2nd row and then put a heavy blanket over everything. We should probably strap the dogs in but so far have not. Since most of our trips are longer distance on highways the windows are closed.
 
I don't have a Gravity, but we do this in both my Air and my wife's SUV. We buy hard-bottomed dog hammocks for the second row. It keeps the dogs confined to the back seat (well, in principle anyway) and keeps the interior from getting chewed up.
 
We have two big dogs, Lab and Doberman, and we have a crate that we use. It's custom made for specific vehicles and their dimensions. My wife had it for her EV9 and it fits very easily in the Gravity. Very big, metal high quality and very safe. They currently don't have Gravity but contact them and they can get the dimensions from you or online and get you either one they have thats super close, or build one to Gravity specs.

We have two 70-80 lb dogs and my setup:
The bookends are surprisingly heavy, making the DIY partition very stable. The partition is just meant to give each dog their own space - we don’t need a crate/barrier to forcibly keep them separated.

Traveled with 3-4 people, two dogs, and luggage over multiple road trips. Luggage went in the gap behind the 2nd row seats (and frunk), with the cargo liner draped over the top. The cubbies on the left/right are perfect for water jug, bows, food, and harnesses/leashes. The things we do for our dogs!

This was one of my considerations when buying the Gravity. (actually, that's a lie- I was always going to buy a Gravity). Love our '22 AGT, but it's not really dog friendly. But with a Retriever Large Dog crate (tied down nicely with straps hooked to the D rings near the hatch), I can take both of my 80 pound dogs anywhere we need to go. They've got enough room to stand, turn around or lie down comfortably. People at the trailhead are amazed when I pop the back and open up the crate. Measure, of course, and you might have to slide the 2nd row forward a little, but the rear is just crazy big.
 
We traded Gravity and R1S for regularly transporting large dogs (Great Dane rescue). Picked R1S and bought this semi-specialized crate. Fits well

Sorry, but you have to post a picture of the dogs too if you talk about them. I don't make the rules. 🤷‍♂️
 
So. I disovered something about the Gravity HVAC, specifically airconditioning NOT reaching the third row.

First, small children sitting in booster seats on top of the seats in the third row will not fool the airconditioning system into thinking that those seats are occupied. I had a five-year-old and a nine-year-old seated in the third row, and as excited as they were about riding in the Gravity, they both immediately, loudly complained about NO air reaching them. Adults seated in the second row checked to make sure the air vents were open, I checked to make sure that the rear AC was actually turned on. Still no airconditioning. I’d find out a little later how hot it could get back in the third row, on a hot July summer day in Denver CO.

The following day I had occasion to ride back in the third row myself. The five-year-old was seated next to me in his booster seat. Plenty of airconditioning for me coming from the C-pillar vent, almost none for the five-year-old. I asked my five-year-old grand nephew if I could remove his booster seat beneath him. Sure enough, the airconditioned air started pumping from his C pillar vent.

Getting home, I stowed both third row seats and set up my doggy car seat cover. I quickly discovered that my mum’s dog riding in the back gets NO air at all from C-pillar vents. It is literally airless back in the cargo bay, a situation I am not happy about when I have my mum’s dog riding back there. The workaround I found was to manually set the rear AC to the mid 60s in temperature, and then boost both fans to velocity 10.

In short, the third row gets no HVAC at all if the third row seats are “unoccupied” or if the seats are stowed.

Has anyone else discovered this, have you developed workarounds, or is this an anomalous situation that I should tell my local Lucid Service Centre?
 
We had to combine a couple of backseat car carriers to fill the space behind the second row. (Limiting dog hair in the Gravity.) One of them is partly stuff and covers the Gravity gap, so they don't slide in. Our two shelties ride free back there for around town voyages. We've had four back there on groomer days. Really amazing how much room there is in a Gravity, even with the second row up.

This is something addressed in grsvity software update 3.6.2
This should be fixed then according to @marqie
 
Kind of interesting that something that would have been an NHTSA recall-worthy issue can now be addressed with an OTA software update. Sounds like a benefit.

In my air I used a harness and the center seatbelt. The seat is fully covered by , well a cover, he’s a 75# Airedale. A kennel is a bit more secure but as you note the Air isn’t particularly large dog friendly.
