Lucid Air
I leased a Lucid Air Pure on 12/30/2023. My experience has been nothing but negative.
1. The car seems to have a mind of its own to lock/unlock doors with my iPhone. I've been drenched in the rain waiting for the door to unlock on more than a couple of occasions.
2. I keep getting some type of "right side radar failure" message. Happens at least 2 x month.
3. CarPlay is active, but I cannot hear any audio. Have to do a complete bluetooth re-connect (5 times since I leased the car)
4. Lucid tech came home and spent 3 hours with every possible reset and left very frustrated.
5. Wipers do not work consistently in "Auto Lo" mode. Have to manually turn it on many times.
6. Cabin fan is inconsistent. Sometimes, speed of 5 could be 3 or 8 depending on how the car feels on that day.
7. Even if I have the key / phone in my pocket, it will not let me drive without entering the PIN. Again, not always, but decided that today is "PIN enter" day.
8. The driver side door rubber channel fell off. Lucid made 3 trips to fix it (part was wrong).

Yesterday was the kicker.
I could not open the driver door. The handle would not pop-out, but made an awfully loud knocking noise. So I had to get into the passenger car in my work parking lot, open the driver door and get it. (The looks I got from some of the co-workers were hilarious). I called Lucid and they sent somebody out to drop off a loaner while they take my car and get it fixed.

Brace yourself: The gentleman who brought the loaner Lucid ran into a problem!!!. So Lucid calls me and requests that they park the loaner on my property while they loan me a car from ENTERPRISE!!! They've arranged for Lyft to come and take me to Enterprise. The problematic loaner is on my property without the keys (since they did not want any liability if I drove it).

This could very well be a LEMON.

Sounds frustrating. Keep us posted.

As a historical BMW owner, I was shocked at the can-do professionalism of the Lucid service team to address about 50 issues I spotted at delivery. No complaints and took care of things that were also issues on the loaner, so I was worried they weren't fixable. The resulting PDF was about 40 pages

The latest. “Right radar failure” message pop up once a week. Lucid said that since this is not a permanent error And it goes off on its own, they’ll wait and see if the message continues to remain as is. Only hope that this does not result in unsafe drive driving conditions.

Here is an update on the new issues.
1. Front camera has stopped working
2. When using the flashers, the camera has a mind of its own.
3. A few days ago, I could not open the front doors. Had parked the car for about 5 days and had put in charge (home charging, slowest) for 4 days straight. Finally had to go through the rear door and open the front doors.

Definitely report to service

Update 7/25/24: Lucid is taking my vehicle to the service center for these problems. My Lucid is leased. Today I get to know that they are going to drive it to the service center which is about a 160 mile round trip, squarely taking the miles off of my lease. Previously Lucid said they were going to put it on a flat bed, but now that idea is gone.

Curious, which service center are you working with?

If you think it will make a difference, I would reach out to Lucid leasing in writing and note that instead of flat bedding it, Lucid is driving it and you expect an adjustment in the mileage allowance to account for those miles that Lucid, not you, are putting on the car. The company might not respond but you are building a written record that these are miles that should not count against you.

Not that I’m arguing, but the alternative would normally be *you* driving it to a service center, right? Wouldn’t that also count against your lease mileage?

The only exception is a tow.

By that logic, we should all deduct mileage to and from the service center for any car regardless of financing because it causes depreciation as mileage increases.

Sad reality is that, this is something you purchased in the grocery store and went to return it and asking them to pay for Gas you used to travel back and forth to home.

Other side of this: if Lucid provides you with a Loaner car, are you going to count those miles towards your lease miles?

I thankfully don’t have your list, but mine is growing. I ordered a vehicle in 2020 - bailed out when it was getting ready in 2022, not wanting to be the only owner in my state - but then got the nerve this year to dive in and leased an Air GT 30 days ago. On the good side - a beautiful interior and solid build - much better than Tesla. But …. Long list of issues, some of which you covered. Overall, very disappointed. Surprised by how poor the overall technology platform is. I had a Genesis GV70 (ICE, not EV) and it was orders of magnitude better in every category (driver displays, media, driver assist, controls…). I’ve lived in enterprise software for 35 years and am used to the concept of “field testing”, but it’s way different when you are messing with someone and their laptop at a desk. This is a production vehicle going down the highway at 70mph. We should not still be living in beta test mode… some of which are very connected to driver safety. “We’re a startup” is not a valid excuse.

Did you test drive it prior to buying?

Yes, and the actual drive is superior. Still is. The issues (blind spot mirrors just stop working (upgrade 2.3) , wonky door lock function, radio still not functional, .. are not things that would have surfaced in a drive.
There are very good things: onboarding/adapting to car and function was super quick; drive performance excellent.
I leased so i am in a bit of a “test drive” anyway. I hope Lucid makes it.

Wow sorry to hear all of this. My 2023 AT has had no serious issues. Just tire flat spots when I took delivery, which they fixed quickly by replacing two tires, and a fail a couple months ago on one supersonic sensor which they replaced when I took the car in. Car works great and drives like a dream.

Hope they get all of this fixed so you can also enjoy the car.

I have had very similar experiences with my car.
Does not appear to be unique. Having it picked up for service soon. It is embarrassing when I can’t get into the car.
Also the air Conditioning is uneven. Feels warm around the head and neck.

The 2.3.0 Blindspot camera problem seems to be affecting only a few cars. Did you get that one resolved? I find that the fob and key are much more reliable with the most recent updates. I use CarPlay all the time for audio so I don’t share your radio issues.

Go to your climate control screen. Turn on all three outputs: high/windshield, middle and floor. AC defaults to the mid and feet. The windshield output, made for defrost, cools your head.

I now use the AC keep on mode all the damn time when I am out and about. It uses almost no juice. Lovely to get back to a cool car. Dog loves it too.
