Jan Rogers Kniffen is a consultant to investors in retail companies and a former retail executive.
Jan is currently CEO of J Rogers Kniffen WorldWide, a firm that consults with long funds, mutual funds, hedge funds, and private equity firms as they make decisions regarding investments in retailers. Jan sits on the Advisory Board of Fashwire, a retail tech start-up that provides an online platform for designers, sits on the Advisory Board of Perfitly, a retail tech start-up that is solving the problem of high the high return rate for online sales of apparel by perfecting fit, Chairs the Advisory Board of Klosebuy, a location based technology company that geolocates businesses and creates digital advertisements and loyalty rewards, sits on the Advisory Board of Artisanal Premium Cheese and sat on the Advisory Board of Stylyze until its recent sale to Neiman's. Jan is also past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut, and past board member of the India Cultural Center.
Jan spent twenty years as a senior executive at The May Department Stores (now Macy's), a company operating department stores under the names Lord & Taylor, Filene’s, Fox, Hecht’s, May-Cohen’s, Robinson’s of Florida, Sibley’s, Horne’s, Kaufman’s, Foley’s, Marshall Field’s, Famous Barr, ZCMI, Goldwater’s, May D&F, The Denver, Meier and Frank, Robinson’s, Strawbridge’s, Thalhimer’s, May Company Cleveland, May Company California, May Company Akron, Strauss, and the Venture and Caldor discount stores, Sycamore specialty stores, Loehmann’s off-price stores, and 4,500 Payless ShoeSource stores, as well as developing, owning and operating 26 super regional shopping malls.
As SVP Finance and Treasurer Jan ran Treasury Operations, Tax, Risk, Investor Relations, Public Relations, Long Range Financial Planning, Acquisition Analysis, Competitor Comparison, and Medical. Jan also managed the $3 billion pension, profit sharing and foundation portfolio. Jan chartered and was president of the three May National Banks, and president of the insurance subsidiaries of May.
Prior to May, Jan spent two years reporting to the treasurer of Icahn and Company and doing acquisitions and divestitures with Carl Icahn’s organization.
Jan grew up in Cairo, Illinois. He majored in English at the University of Illinois, received a bachelor′s degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University, an M.B.A. in finance from Lindenwood University, and did doctoral work in finance at St.Louis University.
