I had been just using the Air Logo reboot because I thought I had read at one point that the brake+buttons method wasn't actually recommended, but that no longer seems to be the case?
Better, real-time trip/efficiency info, especially on the main instrument cluster (similar to some of what my wife's GV60 can display), but also adding non-resettable, vehicle lifetime miles/kWh/efficiency in the main trip data screen (and possibly profile/user-specific like my previous BMW )
I would imagine it's done like any other public-key cryptographic process. An initial handshake is done, each device has or generates a private/public keypair (effectively a couple really long passwords), then gives the other it's public key.

Regarding the left knob controlling cruise control speed being unintuitive, I'll point out that the vast majority of cars I've owned or driven over the past 35+ years have had that control on the left. There were a few on the right, but most were on the left.

If they mounted it lower, other people would be complaining that it's too low. You can't please everyone. That's why I always drive a car before deciding to buy it.
Though they certainly could have helped the issue by having a HUD.
