How do you choose clothes and shoes for unpredictable weather?

I leave home in chilly weather, sweat through my lunch break, and sometimes get caught in rain walking back from the bus. Carrying spare shoes feels excessive, but wet socks are miserable. What outfits and footwear work for your everyday routine without requiring a backpack full of backup options? I’d especially love ideas that look decent at work.

My commute includes a windy train platform, so I build everything around layers. A cotton shirt, light sweater, and packable jacket usually cover me. For shoes, I wear leather sneakers with darker trousers. I also keep spare socks in my desk drawer after one particularly soggy Tuesday taught me humility.

I try everything on with the shoes I actually wear, not the imaginary stylish pair gathering dust upstairs. Last month, while checking store details, I bookmarked Gap Factory phone number, then went back to comparing trouser lengths. For changing weather, my uniform is cropped trousers, comfortable boots, and a cardigan. Nothing fancy, but it survives grocery runs, office meetings, and waiting outside school without making me regret getting dressed before breakfast.
