Has anyone noticed steering wheel creaking? Maybe coming from the steering column? It’s subtle but annoying.
Comments ?
Thanks

Yes, multiple other owners have mentioned this as well. Started for me after about 1500 miles. I know others have posted that service put a piece of felt in place to help reduce the creaking. I had service a couple weeks ago for multiple trim issues and they actually replaced the entire steering wheel which solved this issue. The new steering wheel is definitely different construction on the back aspect and much more sturdy with no creaking.

Maybe I should squawk this one too. I have a creaky steering wheel column, but I can’t reproduce it reliably. That and a couple of bits-and-pieces trim problems, all of which put together might make dropping my car off for a day at the Lucid Service Centre worthwhile.

I have had a bunch of inside trim issues which have become loose and waited til they had accumulated so they could be taken care of together. Unfortunately, my most recent one with inside trim in the back by C pillar now requires them to take car to service center so it can be fixed because they said they may need to remove the bench in the back to adequately repair. Also will need a part replaced due to non functioning AM/FM stereo. Despite all of the trim issues, still love the car.

What's your C pillar trim issue?

I had the creaking last April and they replaced the whole steering column, but then had some creaking again with the summer weather change. I will say it creaked for awhile (though seldom) but then went completely away and I haven't heard it in months. Same with a few other cabin noises that I started to notice once school started and I regularly had the kids in the back. They have all gone away. I am taking them as settling in noises.

Had this issue also and as others have mentioned is fixable - my SA said they put some felt strips in certain places. Hopefully they can do the same for you

Multiple loose pieces - see pics

Looks like the tape for holding the trims is not strong enough. Or maybe they are not heat-resistant. My carpet dinner in the trunk also fell apart, probably due to heat.
I think it might actually be Velcro . Felt like it but not sure.

I’ve taken out the rear headliner trim piece to evaluate this, as mine didn’t fit great. It’s held in place by the plastic “mushroom head” fastening material, not Velcro. When pressed together it is a strong bond. The issue I’ve seen is the mating surfaces of the headliner and roof or C-pillar are not positioned closely enough together to enable the fasteners to really stick together. Adding a layer of 3M auto trim tape (which is thick) under the “mushroom” strips helped in the two forward/outward spots. For the other locations I replaced the OEM fastener strips on the headliner itself with new 3M strips, and filled the raised “platforms” those strips are mounted to with epoxy, creating much more surface area for the adhesive backing to stick to. The headliner is solidly mounted now, though I don’t like how I can see a bit of the top side of the headliner (white plastic) when looking from outside the car. You have to look for it, but it’s not perfect.

I had my second replacement steering wheel installed today. In addition to it being an updated design (per the technician), the installation also includes strategically placing some fabric/foam tape in spots to eliminate noise. So far it’s dead silent and I’m happy! Wheel #1 just felt poorly assembled and the plastic halves flexed in my hands. Wheel #2 started out feeling better, then developed a creaking in cold weather when pushing/pulling on the 9 and 3 positions.

Just to give an update. Regarding my 2 creaking issues:
1) Steering column/wheel
Yesterday they came (mobile device) and replaced my steering wheel. He said there’s been a slight design change in the steering wheel assembly. I had version 3. And now I have version 5. So far it seems to have resolved the creaking I was hearing. Although its only been one day so far.

2) Rear shelf, behind the rear seat.
The tech lifted the rear shelf and discovered a black plastic bracket that should be attached to the shelf, he noticed it came off. Thus it wasn’t securing it to the body. He ordered a replacement rear shelf. When it arrived at the SC, they’ll come back and replace mine. Likely 2-3 weeks.

Curious if your steeling wheel issue is still resolved? Since you posted this back in March. I ask, because I just got my lucid 3 days ago and there is a subtle creak in the steering wheel as well. If the fix is indeed "version 5" of the steeling wheel, one would think I would have received that.

It’s an easy but tedious fix, according to our local techs in Costa Mesa CA. I just got mine fixed, when I brought my car in for its 12K service.

I never complained about my steering wheel, I never mentioned anything, but when I got my car back yesterday, I noticed in the paperwork that the techs had taken it upon themselves to fix the creaking. Gratis.

My steering wheel turns completely silently now.

Yes mine seems much quieter now. I don’t notice the sound i previously experienced. I’d suggest that if you have creaking issues to contact them.

When I put pressure on my steering wheel I hear the creek. Service plans to replace the wheel. My top headliner piece also came loose my guess service can fix that too?
